Dublin Zoo holds the prestigious position of being one of Ireland's top Family Attractions for almost 200 years. We are a conservation charity. Our purpose is to save wildlife and inspire a passion for nature - one person, one family at a time.

All members of the Dublin Zoo team are expected to be champions of our CARE Values: we Care, we are A Team, we are Respectful and we are Excellent.

Dublin Zoo is looking for a Facilities Operative to join our busy Facilities team.

This is a hands-on role. You'll be installing, repairing and maintaining the mechanical and plumbing systems that keep the whole site running — pipes, fixtures and fittings, water and drainage, air handling, and gas installations. The work takes you all over the zoo, from offices and visitor buildings to animal houses and outdoor areas.

No two days are the same. The Facilities Department is a fast-moving place, so you'll need to be flexible and happy to turn your hand to other jobs as they come up, even ones outside the list below.

What you'll be doing

Looking after and repairing systems across the site, including heating and cooling, air conditioning, drinking water, water treatment and filtration, sanitation and drainage.

You'll also carry out water sampling and testing, keep everything in line with health and safety, water and gas regulations, and keep clear records for the regulatory authorities.

Part of the job involves working with building management systems (such as SCADA, Trend or ABB) to monitor and control how everything is running.

The role will also support other general facilities requests as necessary to ensure the optimal operation of the zoo.

What we're looking for

  • A trade-qualified plumber, or someone with a mechanical background or equivalent hands-on experience
  • At least 5 years' experience after completing your apprenticeship
  • A good understanding of regulations and a habit of keeping up to date with them — health and safety, water standards, gas installations and so on
  • Comfortable working in different environments, including confined spaces, animal houses, and at heights of up to 10 metres
  • Basic IT skills for keeping records — Outlook, Word, Excel and similar
  • Experience with, or a willingness to learn, building management systems like SCADA, Trend or ABB
  • A good working knowledge of building control systems, heating and cooling, air conditioning, drinking water, water treatment and filtration, sanitation and drainage

Benefits:

  • Bike to work scheme
  • Company pension
  • Employee assistance program
  • Employee discount
  • On-site parking
  • Sick pay
  • Store discount
