Job Type: Independent Consultant (Contract-Based) Work Location: Field-based; candidates must be able to travel to project sites across Nigeria and perform remote reporting and analysis as required. Job Summary: The Independent Energy Auditor is responsible for conducting objective, data-driven assessments of energy use across commercial, industrial, institutional, and small-scale production facilities to identify inefficiencies, quantify energy losses, and uncover opportunities for optimization. Operating with professional independence, the auditor delivers unbiased analysis and credible, evidence-based recommendations that enable clients to reduce energy costs, improve operational performance, and enhance environmental sustainability. This role involves evaluating electrical systems, thermal processes, equipment performance, and operational practices to determine energy consumption patterns and inefficiencies. The auditor assesses the technical and financial viability of energy efficiency measures alongside clean energy interventions, including solar photovoltaic systems, energy storage, energy-efficient equipment upgrades, and other renewable or low-carbon solutions. Where applicable, the auditor conducts baseline energy profiling to support future monitoring, verification, and performance improvement initiatives. Beyond technical assessment, the Independent Energy Auditor translates complex energy data into clear, actionable insights for decision-makers. Deliverables typically include energy audit reports, cost-benefit analyses, and implementation roadmaps that prioritize practical, scalable, and cost-effective solutions. Key Responsibilities Conduct detailed energy audits of commercial, industrial, and small-scale production facilities, applying systematic measurement and verification methodologies. Analyze historical energy consumption data, including electricity demand, fuel usage, and load profiles to identify operational patterns and peak energy requirements. Perform on-site measurements and assessments of equipment, machinery, lighting, HVAC systems, and production processes using calibrated instruments and data logging tools. Diagnose energy inefficiencies and bottlenecks, and evaluate operational and technical improvement opportunities. Quantify potential energy savings, cost reductions, and return on investment (ROI) for recommended interventions, including energy efficiency upgrades and renewable energy solutions (e.g., solar PV, biomass, or other clean energy technologies). Prepare comprehensive, actionable audit reports and technical presentations with prioritized recommendations, baseline energy performance metrics, and implementation roadmaps. Recommend energy efficiency measures and renewable energy solutions aligned with operational requirements and sustainability objectives. Ensure audits comply with relevant standards and guidelines, including ISO 50002, ASHRAE, and other industry best practices. Maintain strict professional independence, data integrity, and confidentiality in all audit activities. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Energy Engineering, or any other related fields. 3-5 years of practical experience in energy auditing, energy management, or related energy efficiency projects. Experience with SMEs, industrial facilities, or donor-funded energy projects is an advantage. Strong understanding of power systems, energy efficiency principles, and load management. Proficiency in analyzing energy consumption patterns, operational data, and load profiles. Familiarity with energy monitoring instruments, data loggers, and audit software. Knowledge of renewable energy technologies, including solar PV, hybrid, and other clean energy solutions. Certification is an added advantage: Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) ISO 50001 Lead Auditor Potential Qualities & Attributes: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills with the ability to interpret complex energy data. Excellent technical writing and communication skills, capable of producing clear, actionable audit reports. High level of integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to professional independence. Focus on delivering high-quality, precise, and well-structured audit outputs. Practicality and feasibility of recommendations, aligned with operational and financial realities. Ability to meet deadlines and ensure timely submission of audit findings and reports. Deliverables: Energy Audit Plan and Site Assessment Report Baseline Energy Consumption Analysis Energy Efficiency Recommendations Cost–Benefit and Payback Analysis Final Audit Report and Presentation Benefits What We Offer : Competitive compensation
