Senior Admissions Test Prep Instructor

Freudigman & Billings is looking to add a full-time Senior Instructor to our Admissions Test Prep team. In particular, we are seeking someone with a significant track record of helping students prepare for the ACT and SAT, but we welcome experience with the ISEE, SSAT, MCAT, GMAT, GRE, and/or LSAT as well.

This is not a remote position. All work is performed at our center in Westport, CT.

What We Do

Our instructors teach information processing, self-monitoring, critical thinking, and problem solving strategies to help students understand fundamental principles about how the world of ideas is organized and how they can best interact with that information. This process does not involve the rote memorization of vocabulary or inundation of practice questions that many associate with “test prep.” Instead, we focus on teaching students effective strategies for gathering, sequencing, tracking, and classifying information from text and visual sources. These processes contribute to a student’s ability to reason, solve problems, make inferences, and draw conclusions. We help students develop the skills, self-awareness, and confidence to become more capable, independent learners, meaning our work extends well beyond preparing students for a single examination.

Who You Are

​You are an experienced test prep educator (7+ years of direct instruction) who brings strong instructional expertise, sound judgement, and the ability to establish productive relationships with students and families. You understand that effective test preparation involves much more than delivering content or assigning practice questions: it requires understanding how a student thinks, identifying barriers to learning, and adapting instruction to support meaningful progress.

Senior Instructors bring a level of experience that allows them to learn and apply our instructional approach efficiently while also taking on meaningful responsibilities within the Test Prep department. We are interested in educators who want to contribute beyond direct instruction. Depending on your strengths, interests, and professional expertise, there are opportunities to support curriculum development, instructor coaching, family communication, student data analysis, or other departmental initiatives.

What You’ll Do

Direct Instruction and Student Support:

• Meet one-on-one with a cohort of students to teach test prep skills, averaging approximately 20-24 instructional hours per week
• Establish and maintain productive relationships with students and families throughout the test preparation process
• Collaborate with the Test Prep Leadership to generate and execute specific plans for each student, while maintaining confidentiality and security of client information​
• Interact with instructors from different departments, including Educational Therapy, Academic Instruction, and College Advising, in order to provide holistic support for students in your cohort
• Attend Test Prep related meetings and development opportunities
• Support students in their application for testing accommodations, when relevant

Departmental and Professional Contributions:

• Identify opportunities to use your professional expertise to strengthen departmental systems, resources, and student services.
• Depending on your strengths and interests, take on additional responsibilities in areas such as curriculum, instructor development, student or family communication, or data analysis.
• Contribute to the development of a collaborative, consistent, and high-quality instructional environment.
• To start, approximately 5hrs/week will be reserved for these efforts.

This infrastructure allows instructors to devote more of their time and energy to their students and instructional responsibilities. 

Predictable hours at a single office location: Almost all of our work with students takes place at our 11,000 square foot headquarters in Westport, CT. Students are encouraged to utilize our space not only to see their instructors, but to do homework, hang out with friends, have a snack, get some advice, or even catch a quick nap during finals week. Instructors are provided with a private classroom, a whiteboard, and all materials necessary for a productive session. No unpaid time as you drive from house to house! 

A Career Beyond the Instructional Hour: We recognize that experienced educators often bring expertise that extends beyond classroom instruction. As you become established within our department, there will also be opportunities to contribute in areas such as curriculum development, instructional resources, student and family communication, data analysis, or instructor development. The specific nature of these responsibilities will depend on your skills, interests, and the needs of the department. We are interested in identifying ways for senior team members to make meaningful contributions while continuing to engage directly with students.

Great guaranteed pay: $85,000 - $100,000, salary based on experience, with paid sick time, vacation time, and holidays.

Schedule

The current instructional schedule requires availability during afternoon and evening hours. The anticipated schedule is 12:30pm to 9pm, Monday through Thursday, and 11am to 7:30pm on Sundays. Instructors with interest in working on Fridays and Saturdays will also be considered. Scheduling arrangements may be customized on a case-by-case basis based on departmental needs, student demands, and the scope of the instructor’s responsibilities. 

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree
• 7+ years of experience instructing students in ACT and/or SAT exam preparation
• Demonstrated ability to become proficient in new instructional models and apply them effectively
• Experience working with students who have diagnosed learning differences and accommodations on standardized testing, including familiarity with the testing and documentation processes relevant to those accommodations
• Exceptional organizational skills, communication skills, and attention to detail
• Expert capabilities with Excel and GSuite
• Ability to thrive and demonstrate confidence in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
• Interest in contributing to departmental initiatives beyond direct instruction
• Ability to pass a background check
