Position Overview

The Student Support Coordinator is a key member of the student support team responsible for advancing a safe, inclusive, and academically focused school culture where all students experience belonging, accountability, and high expectations.  This role leads and coordinates tiered student support systems (MTSS for behavior), restorative practices, and PBIS implementation in partnership with the Assistant Principal/Culture Lead and Student Support Team.  The Coordinator serves as a visible and relational leader on campus, working closely with students, families, and staff to strengthen community, resolve conflict, and promote student growth.

Core Responsibilities

Student Support Systems & Office Coordination

  • Co-manage the Student Support Office to ensure structured, consistent, and restorative processes.
  • Serve as the point person for student behavioral intake and triage, ensuring timely and appropriate intervention.
  • Maintain clear systems for documentation, follow-up, and communication with staff and families.
  • Partner with site leadership and counselors to coordinate supports and referrals.
  • Ensure that logical consequences, restorative conferences, and re-entry meetings are implemented with consistency and dignity.
  • Supervise students during key times (arrival, lunch, transitions, dismissal) to ensure campus safety and visibility.
  • Maintain accurate behavior trackers and analyze patterns to inform proactive supports.
  • Additional duties, as assigned by Supervisor

Impact Goal: Increase positive student behavior, decrease behavior incidents and support restorative resolutions

Restorative Practices & PBIS Implementation

  • Collaborate with Assistant Principal/Culture Lead to implement schoolwide PBIS and restorative systems.
  • Facilitate restorative conferences, mediation, and circles.
  • Support students in setting and monitoring behavioral goals.
  • Support staff in proactive classroom culture practices aligned to schoolwide expectations.
  • Ensure tiered supports are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and asset-based.
  • Support re-entry planning following suspension or extended absence.
  • Additional duties, as assigned by Supervisor

Impact Goal: Increase student belonging and reduce exclusionary discipline practices

School Culture Programming Support

  • Support schoolwide assemblies, recognition programs, and culture-building events.
  • Coordinate student leadership opportunities that promote voice and agency.
  • Additional duties, as assigned by Supervisor

Impact Goal: Increase student-reported belonging and connectedness.

Family Engagement & Partnership

  • Collaborate with school leadership to plan and implement family engagement events.
  • Partner with families to address attendance, academic, behavioral, and social-emotional concerns (via MTSS)
  • Coordinate communications related to student support systems and culture initiatives.
  • Maintain clear, proactive communication with families regarding interventions and follow-up.
  • Additional duties, as assigned by Supervisor

Leadership & Professional Culture

  • Model high expectations by having excellent communication, attendance and attention to details
  • Provide student supervision before school, at lunch, during passing periods, and after school
  • Model culturally responsive, restorative, and asset-based practices.
  • Use data (behavior trends, attendance, SEL surveys) to inform proactive strategies.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams to ensure consistent expectations across classrooms.
  • Support incident investigations and culture initiatives with professionalism and discretion.
  • Maintain a highly visible and relational presence across campus.
  • Contribute to a staff culture grounded in collective responsibility for student success.
  • Additional duties, as assigned by Supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to Gateway’s unique educational mission and to equitable outcomes for all students
  • Commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds and learning profiles
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a dedicated staff and involved parent body
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; interpersonal skills with students and families
  • At least 2-3 years experience working with middle school students in an urban school preferred
  • Prior experience in a relevant role preferred
  • Bilingual candidates and BIPOC candidates are strongly encouraged to apply
  • BA or BS degree

Compensation and Benefits:

  • The position is full-time and includes full health benefits.
  • 10-month, school year calendar with 1-2 summer weeks for strategic planning  (stipend)
  • Salaried position; competitive salary based on experience

Other Information:

  • Position hours are 8am to 4pm with occasional family and student engagement events during after school hours
  • This position will be based in the Student Support Office
  • This position reports directly to the Assistant Principal/Culture Lead
