Senior Backend Engineer (Python / AI / Azure)

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join a fast-moving healthcare technology startup operating in the dental insurance and practice management space. The role is focused on supporting the evolution of a highly context-driven platform involving insurance workflows, automation, AI-powered processes, and backend infrastructure scalability.

The ideal candidate combines strong backend engineering capabilities with solid architectural thinking and is comfortable operating in a startup environment where requirements evolve quickly and pragmatic problem-solving is essential. The engineer will work closely with the internal technical lead and product stakeholders to validate architectural decisions, contribute directly to implementation, and help scale the platform toward upcoming business milestones.

  Design, develop, and maintain backend services primarily using Python

  Collaborate on system architecture decisions and validate technical approaches

  Contribute to AI/LLM-related workflows and evaluation processes

  Support integration-heavy insurance and dental management workflows

  Work within a rapidly evolving startup environment with shifting priorities

  Participate in deployment and infrastructure discussions around Azure and Docker

• Strong backend engineering experience with Python

• Experience with React is considered a plus

• Familiarity with Azure cloud infrastructure

• Experience with Docker/containerized deployments

• Understanding of LLM integrations, prompt engineering, and AI workflow evaluation

• Experience working with PostgreSQL and SQL-based systems

• Experience with web scraping tools such as Playwright is beneficial

• Exposure to voice agent technologies (e.g., LiveKit, Ultravox, or similar) is a plus

• Strong architectural reasoning and ability to challenge/validate technical decisions constructively

• Pragmatic, adaptable engineer rather than a highly rigid “purist” mindset

• Comfortable balancing speed and quality in startup delivery environments

• Strong communication and collaboration skills

• Experience in healthcare, dental, or insurance-related systems is beneficial but not mandatory

• Ability to work in long-term, context-heavy product environments where business logic evolves continuously
