There’s no pledge more important than the one we make to look after our environment, and we’re committed to helping you do exactly that.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking to appoint a Business Group Leader – Waste Management to lead and grow our NSW/ACT team. In this key leadership role, you will work closely with our Operations Manager, Market Leaders, and national technical network to drive the strategic direction of our Waste Management offering, while leading the delivery of complex waste and resource recovery infrastructure projects across the full lifecycle.

You will leverage your entrepreneurial approach to lead and develop our established, high‑performing team, delivering strong technical, commercial, and client outcomes across a range of projects including waste and resource recovery facility planning, design and operation. Projects and services span landfills, transfer stations, waste containment facilities, organics processing, waste to energy and emerging industries and technologies. You will strengthen client partnerships, identify new opportunities, and shape the ongoing growth and performance of the business, while fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration.

As a proactive and influential leader, you will mentor and develop your team, champion high quality project delivery, and drive performance across multi-disciplinary projects. You’ll bring strong project and financial management capability, with a proven ability to win work, lead teams, and create an environment where people and clients thrive.

This position can be based in any of our offices across NSW/ACT.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

  • Building a strong business development and work-winning culture, effectively positioning and pursuing large, strategic opportunities to expand GHD’s presence and market share within the Waste sector.

  • Developing and empowering a high-performing and passionate team of professionals to reach their full potential.

  • Championing the regional strategy, delivering business plan objectives and targets, and driving locally based initiatives.

  • Strengthening key client and stakeholder relationships, acting as a trusted advisor while identifying opportunities to expand our Waste Management offering across NSW/ACT and beyond.

  • Being part of an employee-owned global enterprise, with the potential to become a shareholder and Principal of GHD in the future.

  • For the right candidate, we will consider a part-time appointment (minimum 0.8 FTE).

What would you bring to the team?

  • A degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (or a related discipline), supported by extensive experience in waste management and/or civil infrastructure consulting

  • A strong professional network within the Waste Management sector both locally and nationally

  • Strong commercial and client acumen, with a demonstrated ability to win work, build long-term client relationships, and contribute to business growth.

  • A commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion, with a focus on creating equitable and inclusive team environments.

  • A desire to advance and grow your career in this key leadership role.
