Who are we looking for?   

The US East Region is looking for a motivated Transit Engineer to join GHD’s growing Transportation practice and support transit projects throughout Georgia and the eastern United States. Based in our Atlanta office, this position will work with multidisciplinary teams on the planning, design, and delivery of transit corridors and supporting infrastructure, including roadway and intersection improvements, transit stations and stops, pedestrian and bicycle connections, drainage, utilities, traffic control, and other civil improvements. Experience supporting Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Arterial Rapid Transit (ART) projects is preferred.

The successful candidate will perform civil and transportation engineering assignments from conceptual planning and alternatives analysis through preliminary and final design, permitting, and construction support. Responsibilities may include preparing engineering calculations, design plans, technical specifications, cost estimates, reports, and other project deliverables; coordinating across planning, roadway, traffic, structural, drainage, utility, environmental, and construction disciplines; and working with transit agencies, state and local governments, stakeholders, and project partners. The ideal candidate will bring sound engineering judgment, strong communication skills, and a collaborative approach to delivering safe, accessible, reliable, and passenger-focused transit improvements.

The successful candidate will be comfortable presenting technical concepts, recommendations, and practical solutions to clients and stakeholders in project meetings, workshops, industry conferences, and other public forums. We are looking for a collaborative thought leader who can translate complex engineering issues into clear, compelling messages; contribute informed perspectives on emerging transit trends and best practices; and strengthen GHD’s presence in the marketplace through professional organizations, technical presentations, and client engagement. Experience supporting MARTA projects or programs is also preferred.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in: 

  • Contract Management: Deliver required outcomes by coordinating activities of subcontractors and suppliers and acting as a primary point of contact for them while working within an established contract management plan.
  • Improvement/Innovation: Identify shortcomings in existing processes, systems, and procedures, and use established change management programs to address them.
  • Engineering Standards Specification: Carry out a range of activities under the guidance of more senior colleagues to support the drafting of engineering standards and specifications and the evaluation of the effectiveness of those standards.
  • Knowledge Management System: Help others get the most out of knowledge management systems by offering support and advice.
  • Client & Customer Management (External): Maintain strong client relationships by providing trusted advice and consistently delivering high-quality work that meets client needs 
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Collate and analyze data using preset tools, methods, and formats. Involves working independently.
  • Monitor Construction Works: Monitor and oversee the delivery of works to ensure that construction, maintenance, or improvement works are delivered in accordance with quality, cost, and time requirements.
  • Engineering Drawings: Create engineering drawings to support the communication, evaluation, and implementation of engineering solutions.
  • Engineering Solutions Design: Develop and validate engineering solutions, including PS&E packages, alternative analyses, and conceptual designs, in accordance with GDOT standards, applicable regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

  • Personal Capability Building: Pursue continuous professional development through training, coaching, industry engagement, and relevant certifications, while sharing knowledge, mentoring peers, and supporting their professional growth.

  • Project Management: Work within an established project management plan to achieve specific goals.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field. 
  • 7+ years of experience with solid technical knowledge and skills across rail & transit, transportation & municipal engineering, including a strong background in planning & design; construction experience a plus.
  • Registered Civil Engineer in Georgia.
  • Strong understanding of PS&E package development across multiple Design platforms, with demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D required, experience with Revit, MicroStation, OpenRail Designer, and MARTA CAD/BIM standards preferred.
  • Knowledge of AREMA and AASHTO guidelines and standards.
