This opportunity is with Good Shepherd – Administration, Finance.
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Junior Accountant supports accurate and timely day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, journal entries, month-end and year-end activities, and maintaining accurate financial records and supporting schedules.
- Process vendor invoices, verify approvals and supporting documentation, and ensure appropriate coding to the general ledger.
- Maintain vendor records, reconcile vendor statements, respond to supplier inquiries, and investigate or resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare and issue customer invoices, apply payments, maintain accurate receivable records, and follow up on outstanding balances.
- Support collections activities, aging reviews, and resolution of payment discrepancies.
- Perform monthly reconciliations for general ledger accounts, bank accounts, and sub-ledgers.
- Prepare account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and documentation, and investigate variances or outstanding items.
- Prepare and post routine journal entries and assist with accruals, prepaids, and adjusting entries.
- Maintain accurate general ledger records and ensure accounting transactions and reconciliations are completed accurately and on time.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities and assist with the preparation of monthly management reports.
- Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for financial statements and other reporting requirements.
- Support internal and external audits by organizing and providing requested financial documentation.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities as required.
- Maintain organized and accurate financial files, records, and supporting documentation.
- Perform work in accordance with established accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Respond to routine accounting inquiries and collaborate with Finance team members and other departments to resolve issues and obtain required information.
- Identify discrepancies, incomplete information, or process issues and bring them forward for appropriate follow-up.
- Observe all Good Shepherd health and safety rules and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1–3 years of accounting experience is preferred.
- Working knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger processes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and NetSuite is required.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational, communication, computer, interpersonal, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise professionalism and integrity, and work collaboratively with Finance team members and other departments.
- Ability to identify discrepancies, incomplete information, and process issues and bring them forward for appropriate follow-up.
- Ability to follow established accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
