Are you passionate about safety, risk management, and building strong business relationships? Do you enjoy partnering with customers to solve operational challenges and improve outcomes? If so, we invite you to join Great West Casualty Company as a Risk Control Specialist serving our Minnesota territory.

In this consultative role, you'll work directly with motor carriers, agents, and internal business partners to evaluate operations, identify risk exposures, and recommend practical solutions that improve safety performance. You'll have the opportunity to make a measurable impact by helping transportation companies strengthen their safety culture while supporting profitable growth for Great West.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-quote and on-site risk control evaluations for prospective and existing insureds.
  • Assess safety culture, operational practices, regulatory compliance, and risk management effectiveness.
  • Evaluate terminal operations, fleet safety programs, and loss prevention initiatives.
  • Consult with leadership teams on opportunities to reduce accidents, injuries, and losses.
  • Develop actionable recommendations that support long-term safety and operational success.
  • Assist insureds in enhancing safety programs, driver engagement initiatives, and loss prevention strategies.
  • Provide resources and guidance for safety meetings, training programs, and risk mitigation efforts.
  • Influence positive change by effectively communicating the business impact of safety improvements.
  • Support the development of incentive and recognition programs that reinforce safe behaviors.
  • Partner with agents and Underwriting teams to support new and existing business opportunities.
  • Participate in joint visits with agents and insureds to demonstrate the value of Great West's consultative approach.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to motor carrier leadership and operational teams.
  • Represent Great West at industry conferences, trucking association meetings, and customer events.
  • Prepare detailed written reports documenting observations, findings, and recommendations.
  • Provide timely information and insights that support underwriting decisions.
  • Identify emerging risks and communicate concerns to appropriate internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain current knowledge of transportation industry regulations and evolving safety practices.

Requirements

  • Experience in transportation safety, risk control, fleet operations, loss prevention, insurance, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of motor carrier operations and transportation industry best practices.
  • Understanding of FMCSA regulations, FMCSR requirements, OSHA standards, and safety compliance programs.
  • Experience developing or delivering training programs to adult learners.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills with the ability to engage audiences of all sizes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to influence, negotiate, and build credibility with business leaders and customers.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and technology tools.
  • Valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 50% or more throughout the assigned territory.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or Saturdays as business needs require.
