The Material Planning and Production Specialist ensures materials and components are available to support production schedules, maintain inventory accuracy, and drive operational efficiency. This role is responsible for weekly production planning to help meet customer orders and works closely with procurement, production, warehouse, and operations teams to support plant demands and on-time delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze production forecasts and determine material requirements to support manufacturing schedules.
  • Create and maintain Material Requirements Planning (MRP) schedules to ensure timely material availability.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment activities to prevent shortages or overstocking.
  • Liaise with suppliers and internal teams to ensure timely delivery of raw materials and components.
  • Track material usage trends and adjust planning assumptions based on production demand.
  • Develop, update, and maintain weekly production schedules to ensure customer orders are met in alignment with plant capacity and material availability.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing teams to align material availability with production timelines.
  • Prioritize and adjust production orders as needed to support customer delivery dates and changing business demands.
  • Identify production bottlenecks or material constraints and escalate or implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory levels, lead times, planning parameters, and production data within ERP/MRP systems.
  • Generate reports for demand forecasting, capacity planning, and material usage analysis.
  • Utilize ERP/MRP systems such as SAP, Tiptop, and reporting tools such as Power BI to manage planning activities.
  • Work closely with the Procurement Manager, warehouse, quality assurance, and operations teams to support production goals.
  • Participate in meetings related to supply chain, production, and capacity planning.
  • Adhere to and fully support all company policies, processes, and procedures, and perform all other duties as required.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, inventory control, and supply chain management.
  • Excellent communication skills, including both written and verbal communication.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, ERP/MRP systems, and reporting tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently with limited supervision.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in planning, reporting, and system transactions.

Requirements

  • Sit, stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally lift and move materials or office items up to 25 pounds without assistance.
  • Use standard office equipment and computer systems for extended periods.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment according to the function being performed when entering production or warehouse areas.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Degree in business, logistics, supply chain, inventory management, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in material planning, inventory management, purchasing, production scheduling, or a related role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems such as SAP or Tiptop preferred.
  • Understanding of production planning principles and supply continuity requirements.
