The Middle School Math and Science Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging, standards-aligned instruction that supports students’ academic, social, and emotional development.
The role focuses on building strong foundations in mathematics and scientific inquiry, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and creating an inclusive, well-structured learning environment. A strong background in special education is essential, with the ability to effectively support students with a wide range of learning needs through differentiated instruction, interventions, and accommodations.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Plan and deliver creative, lessons in mathematics and science aligned with curriculum standards
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including students with additional or complex needs
- Develop students’ numeracy, scientific reasoning, and problem-solving skills
- Use a variety of teaching strategies, including hands-on and interactive learning
- Assess, monitor, and report on student progress and development
Student Development
- Support students’ social, emotional, and behavioral development
- Implement appropriate accommodations and interventions to support diverse learners
- Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
- Maintain clear expectations and positive classroom management practices
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding progress and wellbeing
Collaboration and School Contribution
- Collaborate with colleagues to plan curriculum and share best practices
- Work closely with the SENCo and support staff to ensure effective provision for all learners
- Participate in meetings, professional development, and school initiatives
- Contribute to extracurricular activities, STEM initiatives, and school events
- Build strong partnerships with families and the wider school community
Administration and Professional Duties
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, planning, assessment, and student progress
- Complete reports and required documentation in a timely manner
- Supervise students during break, lunch, and other assigned duties
- Provide class cover when required within agreed guidelines
- Manage and maintain classroom materials and resources
Key Outcomes
- Students demonstrate measurable progress in mathematics and science achievement
- Students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and inquiry skills
- Students with diverse learning needs make consistent progress through effective differentiation, interventions, and accommodations
- A structured and inclusive classroom environment supports engagement and positive behavior
- Assessment data is used effectively to inform teaching and improve outcomes
- Strong collaboration with SENCo, support staff, and families supports student success

Personal Specifications
Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified Teacher Status
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or relevant field
- Strong background in special education
- Experience working with students across a wide range of learning needs
- Experience teaching in a primary school setting
