Epic Research and Genomics Analyst II 

 

Our leaders shape strategic initiatives, develop enthusiastic teams, and work to improve health outcomes. They advance our mission and exemplify excellence, compassion, teamwork, and purpose in all that they do. Indiana University Health is seeking individuals who embody these values to join our Information Services team in the role of Epic Research and Genomics Analyst II.  This position is full-time and on a hybrid schedule, and all candidates must live and work in Indiana. 

 

Summary

Combines technical system knowledge, workflow optimization, and stakeholder engagement to ensure Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems are effectively implemented, maintained, and aligned with clinical and operational needs. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. Plays a role in the development, support, and rollout of the Epic EHR system. Participates in all phases of the system development life cycle, including but not limited to requirements gathering, use case development, and solution evaluation. Brings relevant topics to discussions/meetings. Speaks to system settings and tasks. Facilitates and leads meetings with internal teams and vendors. Assists with Epic software releases and new application implementations. Participates in application testing and validation during upgrades or new module implementations. Serves as an onsite Epic resource during implementations and ongoing support activities. Develops, configures, and modifies moderately complex systems to support clinical and operational needs. Designs, codes/configures, tests, and maintains application programs. Configures and customizes Epic applications to optimize workflow processes. Utilizes Epic best practices to ensure system builds align with organizational standards and workflows. Supports existing functionality and expands application capabilities as needed. Assists in the coordination of all testing phases of Epic applications during implementations, upgrades, and optimizations. Participates in application testing efforts and validates system performance. Participates in on-call support for system troubleshooting and issue resolution. Provides second-level support for incidents and service requests. Creates and maintains documentation for business requirements, current and future-state workflows, and system configurations. Provides input into policies, procedures, and best practices. Contributes to ongoing system optimization and workflow improvement initiatives. Collaborates with clinical, operational, and facility teams to support Epic implementation and adoption. Builds and maintains strong relationships with Physicians, Nurses, Revenue Cycle teams, Health Information Management staff, and facility leadership. Works closely with Epic project teams, business partners, and end users. Provides hands-on training and support to end users. Collaborates with facility teams to deliver training sessions. Ensures users are equipped to efficiently utilize Epic systems. Ensures alignment of Epic systems with organizational goals and standards. Applies Epic best practices for system design, build, and optimization. Participates in IT and clinical/business system governance activities. Clinical - operational research experience is highly preferred. 

Candidate Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of experience is required.
  • Requires 2-4 years of relevant experience. Relevant experience includes IS, clinical, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Requires an understanding of healthcare business processes and technology, with basic knowledge of healthcare workflows and terminology.
  • Ability to travel to assigned sites as required.
  • Epic Certification in 1 module is preferred, or willingness to obtain certification.

Makes necessary adjustments based on response to plan.

Demonstrates active listening and seeks further information to ensure clarity and understanding. Promptly responds to requests for information while obtaining guidance where needed.

Ethical Practice - Demonstrates the highest level of confidentiality standards in handling of customer relations, medical and prescription records and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance. Maintains confidentiality as appropriate, earns trust and respect of others, and exhibits behaviors that express the ethical practice of a healthcare organization. Demonstrates thorough and logical thought processes to support actions / recommendations. Reports and responds immediately to unethical behavior or conflicts of interest.

Project Management - Implements solutions based on guidelines provided by leadership; appropriately resolves issues within project plan parameters; identifies patterns and potential underlying issues. Provides thoughtful suggestions based on consideration of various pros and cons.

Problem Solving - Proactively and clearly identifies problems or issues and suggests alternative solutions. Uses resources such as other team members, written or online manuals or work-related materials, etc. to creatively address existing or anticipated work problems. Leverages knowledge and experiences to ensure best practices are being implemented in day-to-day work.

Execution - Addresses problems directly and implements objectives effectively. Produces on time high-quality work deliverables. Apply basic project management principles, and apply logical, consistent, and organized standard of work practices.

Independent Judgment - Exhibits sound professional judgment and diplomacy in handling unexpected problems and frequent interruptions that require immediate action or attention. Escalates issues appropriately in a timely and effective manner.
