Internal and external candidates will be considered for this vacancy. For the purposes of this vacancy, internal candidates are defined as staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded or ungraded contract, including Junior Professional Officers (JPOs), staff on Special Leave Without Pay (SLWOP), UN Volunteers with at least twelve (12) months of continuous service in IOM, and staff members on secondment/loan released by the Organization, unless otherwise specified in their contract. Staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded contract will not retain their contract type if appointed to an ungraded position.

Under the overall supervision of the National Supply Chain Officer  in Athens Greece and direct supervision of the Senior Logistics Assistant); the successful candidate will be supporting with following responsibilities:

  1. Drive assigned IOM office vehicle(s) including Mission’s cars and motorbikes. 
  2. Manage the day-to-day maintenance of the vehicle to ensure roadworthiness.  This includes daily check of tires, brakes, engine oil, fan belt, etc.
  3. Arrange for minor repairs and ensures that the vehicles are kept clean.
  4. Ensure that the vehicles undertake regular service intervals.
  5. Provide safe, timely, and reliable transportation for the Chief of Mission, senior Mission officials, and visiting personnel, including assignments during evenings and weekends, in line with operational needs and in line with applicable regulations regarding overtime, additional hours, and compensatory leave. 
  6. Find the most direct and safe route over the best available roads to the destination.
  7. Ensure that the IOM vehicle(s) is used only for official/authorized business, as advised by the supervisor.
  8. Make sure that the daily logbook sheets for the Mission vehicle they use are prepared.
  9. Collect and deliver mail, documents, pouches, and other communications/items from and to the country office; go to the post office, airport, government agencies, other UN agencies, institutions, project sites, etc., to take and deliver items and communications; keep records as required.
  10. When needed, assist the country office staff in performing simple clerical duties such as making and answering telephone calls, making photocopies, keeping records, etc.
  11. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
     

Requirements

  • High school degree/certificate and relevant working experience.
  • Valid national driver’s license, for both car and motorbike with at least five years driving experience.

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations.
  • Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles
  • Skills in minor vehicle repairs. 
  • Knowledge of radio, email, telephone and other applications.
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of standard software applications (MS Office).
  • Wllingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, based on operational needs 

All IOM staff members in all categories are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish).

For this position, fluency in Greek and English is required (oral and written).

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
