Inversion builds advanced reentry systems to deliver next-generation capabilities from space.

Our mission is to make Earth radically more accessible by turning Low-Earth Orbit into an on-demand logistics domain. We see space not as a destination, but as a platform — one that unlocks unprecedented speed and global reach.

Our spacecraft are designed to deliver payloads anywhere on Earth in under an hour, operating through extreme reentry conditions and landing with high precision. These systems open the door to new ways of testing, delivering, and operating at hypersonic speeds.

Inherently dual-use, our technology is built to meet urgent national security needs while laying the groundwork for future commercial applications. Backed by leading investors including Y Combinator, Spark Capital, and Lockheed Martin Ventures, and working with partners such as the U.S. Space Force and NASA, Inversion is pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in space-based defense and logistics.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Avionics Integration and Test Technician, you'll be hands-on with our spacecraft avionics systems from component validation, test system development, and vehicle assembly through flight operations. You'll install, integrate, test, and troubleshoot complex flight electronics including flight computers, sensors, communication systems, power distribution, and instrumentation. Working closely with engineers and technicians across disciplines, you'll ensure our avionics systems are built right, tested thoroughly, and ready to fly.

  • Install and integrate avionics components, wire harnesses, and electrical systems into flight vehicles according to engineering drawings and work instructions.
  • Perform functional testing, troubleshooting, and verification of avionics hardware including flight computers, navigation sensors, communication systems, and instrumentation including acceptance and qualification test campaigns.
  • Execute detailed test procedures for component-level checkout, subsystem integration, and vehicle-level verification testing.
  • Operate test equipment including oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, signal generators, and specialized avionics test sets.
  • Support hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and integrated vehicle test campaigns.
  • Perform electrical continuity checks, signal verification, and functional tests on integrated harnesses and electrical systems.
  • Document test results, anomalies, and corrective actions in accordance with quality and configuration management procedures.
  • Support vehicle assembly, integration, and test operations including sensor installation, harness routing, connector mating, and system bring-up.
  • Fabricate, modify, and repair wire harnesses, cables, and electrical ground support equipment (GSE) as needed.
  • Work with engineers to troubleshoot integration issues and implement design changes or rework.
  • Maintain organized workspaces, tooling, test equipment, and technical documentation.
  • Support launch operations, pre-flight checkouts, and post-flight data collection activities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with avionics integration, electrical assembly, or electronics testing in aerospace, defense, or related industries.
  • Demonstrated proficiency reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and technical procedures.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical test equipment including multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and signal generators.
  • Experience with wire harness fabrication, termination techniques (crimping, soldering), and cable assembly.
  • Familiarity with avionics/electronics systems such as flight computers, engine controllers, GPS, communication systems, or sensor suites.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and methodical approach to diagnosing electrical and system-level issues.
  • Ability to work from technical drawings, work instructions, electrical schematics, and test procedures with attention to detail.
  • Experience with proper ESD handling procedures and cleanroom/controlled environment protocols.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs and work in various positions (standing, kneeling, overhead) for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and flexible schedules to support test campaigns and launch operations.
  • IPC-A-610 and/or J-STD-001 certification for electronic assembly and soldering.
  • Experience with aerospace avionics systems in launch vehicles, spacecraft, aircraft, or UAVs.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD wiring practices and aerospace-grade connector systems (D-sub, circular, RF connectors).
  • Experience supporting hardware-in-the-loop testing or flight test operations.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as CAN, RS-422/485, Ethernet, or serial interfaces.
  • Experience with data acquisition systems and instrumentation setup.
  • Familiarity with configuration management, AS9100, or similar quality management systems.
  • Experience using PLM/ERP/MRP systems for work tracking and documentation.
  • Prior experience in fast-paced startup, prototype, or R&D environments.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across engineering and operations teams.
  • Python, or other scripting, experience for test automation (a plus).
