The Department of Transplant Surgery at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH CTS Transplant Senior Specialist / Transplant Coordinator. The successful candidate will:
- Conduct pre-transplant education sessions for new and waitlisted transplant candidates.
- Coordinate evaluation of pre-transplant candidates.
- Obtain patient data in a timely manner.
- Arrange necessary testing and review results with attending staff.
- Collaborate with dialysis units in obtaining and sharing of information necessary for listing.
- Direct support staff in obtaining information needed for patient listing. Document flow of information in the Transchart database.
- Demonstrate knowledge of clinical issues pertinent to solid organ transplantation.
- Attend transplant divisional meetings and conferences as well as external professional meetings.
- Demonstrate the ability to coordinate transplant team activities with patients, families, OPO centers, and regulatory agencies.
- Participate in performance improvement activities; quality improvement and patient safety activities; assists in maintaining compliance with JCAHO accreditation and other internal and external regulatory standards including the code of conduct.
- Provide program information, and patient follow-up plans, and is available for educational programming with the referring facilities and physicians.
- Act as a liaison to governmental and other regulatory agencies (Medicare, Medicaid, UNOS, ESRD, etc.), the transplant surgery, and follow-up status. The transplant coordinator also may serve in an on-call capacity for the transplant program.
- Coordinate clinical evaluations of patients for transplantation, and collaborates with attending physician to evaluate clinical data and determine suitability for transplant.
- Coordinate the necessary testing for recipients and communicate with the recipient dialysis center during the evaluation process.
- Promote transplant awareness in dialysis units, and collaborate with dialysis staff to identify service-needs improvement.
Requirements

- New York State Registered Nurse Licensure.
- Previous experience working in a similar role, preferably in an academic medical center.
