The Welder Helper assists welders, fitters, and fabrication personnel with the preparation, assembly, installation, and repair of metal components and structures. This position is responsible for supporting welding operations by gathering materials, preparing work areas, maintaining tools and equipment, and performing general labor duties. The Welder Helper plays a critical role in ensuring welding activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist welders, fitters, and fabrication personnel with daily work activities.
  • Prepare materials for welding by cleaning, grinding, cutting, and positioning components.
  • Assist with fit-up and alignment of materials prior to welding.
  • Operate grinders, drills, saws, and other hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Load, unload, transport, and organize materials, tools, and welding equipment.
  • Clean and prepare work areas before, during, and after welding operations.
  • Remove slag, burrs, and excess weld material using appropriate equipment.
  • Assist with measuring, marking, and laying out materials according to specifications.
  • Monitor and maintain welding consumables, supplies, and equipment.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including hot work requirements and PPE standards.
  • Support weld inspections and quality control activities as directed.
  • Assist with equipment maintenance and perform routine housekeeping duties.
  • Communicate unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or quality concerns to supervisors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support project completion.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous construction, fabrication, manufacturing, or industrial experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn welding and fabrication techniques.
  • Ability to work safely in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
  • Ability to pass required pre-employment screenings and client-specific requirements.
  • Experience working in welding, fabrication, construction, utility, pipeline, or industrial environments.
  • Basic understanding of welding processes and metal fabrication.
  • OSHA 10 Certification.
  • Forklift or material handling experience.
  • Previous experience reading tape measures and basic construction drawings.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in various positions for extended periods.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors and in industrial environments under varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and travel as required.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to learn welding terminology, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work while maintaining a positive attitude.

  • Construction sites, fabrication shops, industrial facilities, utility projects, and pipeline projects.
  • Exposure to welding fumes, noise, dust, sparks, heat, and heavy equipment.
