This role is responsible for supporting the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability of instrumentation and control systems across facility, utility, and process operations. The position works closely with operations, engineering, OEMs, and maintenance teams to ensure system uptime, operational reliability, and safe execution of maintenance activities. The individual will support a wide range of critical systems within advanced manufacturing and industrial environments.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation and control systems supporting facility, utility, and process operations.
  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM), corrective maintenance (CM), predictive maintenance (PdM), and emergency response activities.
  • Support continuous operation and reliability of process control systems.
  • Perform routine inspections and operational checks on field instrumentation and control devices.
  • Verify equipment status, control sequences, alarms, and system functionality.
  • Support startups, shutdowns, operational transitions, and outage activities.
  • Troubleshoot instrument failures, control loop issues, signal loss, and communication problems.
  • Inspect, calibrate, and maintain field instruments including pressure transmitters, temperature transmitters, flow meters, level devices, pH analyzers, conductivity analyzers, resistivity meters, differential pressure devices, switches, and sensors.
  • Perform calibration verification and loop checks.
  • Support instrument replacement, installation verification, and commissioning activities.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot control valves, actuators, dampers, and positioners.
  • Verify valve stroke, travel, fail position, and operational response.
  • Inspect and maintain pneumatic tubing, regulators, filters, and air systems.
  • Troubleshoot PLC-based control systems and field communication issues.
  • Support SCADA, BMS, and process control interface verification.
  • Investigate control loop instability, oscillation, drift, nuisance alarms, and process deviations.
  • Support tuning activities and process optimization efforts.
  • Verify signal integrity including 4–20 mA loops, digital inputs/outputs, analog inputs/outputs, and communication networks.
  • Support interlock testing and permissive verification activities.
  • Assist with alarm testing, cause-and-effect reviews, and sequence validation.
  • Participate in functional testing, integrated testing, and operational acceptance activities.
  • Support startup readiness reviews and commissioning turnover activities.
  • Review P&IDs, loop drawings, instrument indexes, control narratives, and logic diagrams.
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for instrumentation and control failures.
  • Maintain spare instrument inventory and calibration equipment.
  • Execute LOTO and safe isolation procedures prior to maintenance activities.
  • Follow site EHS, confined space, chemical handling, and electrical safety requirements.
  • Identify abnormal operating conditions, equipment degradation, and reliability risks.
  • Complete PM and CM work orders and maintain CMMS documentation in systems such as IBM Maximo.
  • Update calibration records, maintenance logs, and shift passdowns.
  • Coordinate activities with operations, engineering, OEMs, and maintenance teams.
  • Maintain system uptime, control reliability, and manufacturing support requirements.
  • Support systems including HVAC controls, chilled water systems, condenser water systems, UPW systems, waste treatment systems, chemical distribution systems, exhaust and abatement systems, gas systems, utility plants, process skids, SCADA systems, BMS systems, PLC-controlled equipment, life safety interfaces, and environmental monitoring systems.
  • Any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned to you in your role.

 

  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control systems within industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Experience troubleshooting PLCs, SCADA systems, BMS systems, and process control networks.
  • Ability to calibrate and maintain field instrumentation and analyzers.
  • Familiarity with process utilities including HVAC, UPW, waste treatment, gas, and chemical systems.
  • Strong understanding of control loops, signal integrity, and communication protocols.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop drawings, logic diagrams, and control narratives.
  • Experience working with CMMS systems such as IBM Maximo.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and root cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Commitment to safety, reliability, and compliance with site procedures and standards.

  • Associate’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical Technology, Controls Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • Instrumentation or controls-related certifications preferred.
  • PLC or SCADA training certifications preferred.
    Proof of education, licenses, and certifications will be required where applicable.
