Lumotive is pioneering the era of programmable optics—where light is controlled as intelligently and flexibly as software.

At the heart of this transformation is a once-in-a-generation innovation: a flat CMOS-based “general purpose optic.” Lumotive’s Light Control Metasurface (LCM™) beam forming chips can be programmed to function as a beam steering mirror, a lens, mirror, a beam splitter—or any optical function—replacing bulky and mechanical optical components with a fully digital, reconfigurable semiconductor . This breakthrough lays the foundation for a massive shift in multiple technologies—from 3D sensing and imaging to optical networking, free space optical communication, and beyond. Like the shift from analog to digital in electronics, programmable optics will reshape industries from robotics, self-driving cars, AI, defense, and healthcare.

Lumotive’s first commercial application is in LiDAR, where its software-defined beam steering chips are already enabling compact, high-performance, solid-state sensors. These sensors are being deployed today in smart infrastructure, robotics, and mobility systems through leading module makers and solution integrators.

With more than 200 patents and growing commercial traction, Lumotive is delivering the world’s first digital platform for light—and redefining what’s possible in the optical age.

The Senior Member of Technical Staff, Electrical Engineer plays a key role in a small cross-functional team in a start-up environment developing the next generation Lidar solutions for automotive, industrial and consumer applications. You will participate in defining system level requirements and functions, then translate these requirements to hardware design implementation. You will be responsible for analog, mixed signal, and high-speed digital circuit design and simulation, schematic capture, printed circuit board layout, component selection, prototype bring-up, design validation and design documentation. The candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively across internal functional teams as well as with third party suppliers, partners, and customers. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to think creatively and to operate within a flexible, fast-paced program dedicated to advancing product development. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Hardware Engineering.

  • Responsible for all aspects of electrical designs to deliver product features, system performance and quality for low-cost high-volume 3D sensing applications.
  • Independently develop transmitter, receiver and compute boards to produce differentiated products based on Lumotive’s core technologies.
  • Responsible for the selection and evaluation of electrical components and subsystems.
  • Responsible for electrical prototyping and testing process and infrastructure.
  • Responsible for planning, execution, and reporting for design validation, electrical performance, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Responsible for board build and bring up, including working with domestic and overseas contractors and suppliers.
  • Work closely with FPGA engineers, mechanical engineers, optical engineers, system engineers, and related cross-functional engineering team members to meet technology, performance, and schedule objectives in delivering product features and requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and develop project plans.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years industry experience or 5 years with advanced degree.
  • Experience in analog, mixed signal, and high-speed digital circuit design.
  • Experience designing multi-layer, high-density and complex PCB.
  • Experience in DFX and best practices for power integrity and signal integrity.
  • Experience and proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout design tool, Altium Designer preferred.
  • Experience with high-speed differential data interfaces: MIPI CSI 2, LVDS, USB, Ethernet; and serial peripheral interfaces: SPI, I2C, UART.
  • Experience in 3D sensing related technologies (e.g., LiDAR, Radar) desired.
