The Lead Specialist, Mining serves as a cornerstone for leading and supporting all Engineering and Planning functions, with a strong focus on developing long-term mine plans and optimizing medium-term schedules, mentoring the team and implementing best practices. This role ensures that mine designs and schedules are optimized for safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness, while meeting production targets and aligning with Maaden standards and regulatory requirements. Additionally, the Lead Specialist, Mining will serve as relief for the Superintendent, Engineering & Planning when needed, stepping in to maintain continuity and leadership.
Requirements

o Develop mine planning systems and procedures according to industry best practices.
o Lead adoption of new systems and implementation with the rest of the team.
o Ensure all technical documentation, templates, reports, guidelines are clear and accurate.
Strategic Planning
o Prepare and update Life of Mine (LOM) plans and annual budgets. Optimize designs and sequences with geological and geotechnical inputs.
o Lead project studies to support operational growth and efficiency.
o Develop, review, and optimise life-of-mine plans in line with business objectives.
o Lead budgeting and cost modelling to ensure financial targets and operational efficiency.
Detailed design and execution
o Create detailed designs for mining areas with associated documentation, inclusive of all required mine infrastructure.
o Conduct project due diligence, identifying risks, opportunities, and regulatory compliance requirements.
o Plan and manage project timelines, resources, and milestones within budget and operational constraints.
Operational Scheduling
o Develop detailed quarterly and yearly schedules for mining and infrastructure activities
o Coordinate with production and all technical services functions to ensure schedules are robust and achievable.
Safety & Compliance
o Live the Maaden values and promote a safety-first culture
o Adhere to health, safety, and environmental policies
o Conduct regular audits and risk assessments
• Performance Monitoring
o Track actual versus planned performance; analyze KPIs and recommend corrective actions to meet production and cost targets.
Continuous Improvement
o Implement best practices and new technologies in mine planning and scheduling.
o Drive innovation in mining methods, technology adoption, and process optimization.
o Devise initiatives to reduce operational costs and enhance productivity.
Leadership & Mentoring
o Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering technical and professional development.
Support
o Provide technical support to operations, ensuring alignment with production goals and standards.
o Prepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for management.
o Any other duties as required to achieve operational goals.
