Job Purpose

 

The Superintendent, Mechanical leads the execution of preventive, corrective, predictive, and emergency mechanical maintenance activities to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations across MWSPC Maintenance.

The role sets maintenance priorities, supervises maintenance crews, and drives disciplined execution of mechanical maintenance work in line with operational needs, engineering standards, departmental procedures, and EHSS requirements.

The position strengthens plant reliability and equipment availability by coordinating resources, resolving mechanical issues, supporting reliability programs, documenting completed work, and developing maintenance capability through training, coaching, and team leadership.

Key Accountabilities

 

1. Mechanical Maintenance Planning & Execution

  • Lead preventive, corrective, predictive, and emergency mechanical maintenance activities to support safe and reliable plant operations.

  • Prioritize maintenance work assignments to optimize resource use and operational continuity.

  • Review schedules, timelines, inspections, testing activities, and machinery maintenance plans to drive effective execution.

  • Monitor maintenance crew activities and track progress against approved timelines until completion.

  • Coordinate with Maintenance and Production teams to align planned maintenance priorities with operational requirements.

  • Maintain readiness of resources, systems, procedures, equipment, and spare parts for emergencies and scheduled work.

  • Enforce adherence to relevant engineering standards, maintenance procedures, and work requirements.

2. Reliability, Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct routine plant and project site inspections to monitor progress and equipment condition.

  • Investigate identified and potential mechanical issues and implement approved cost-effective solutions.

  • Lead root cause analysis for repeated major failures to strengthen reliability and continuous improvement.

  • Drive chronic failure elimination studies and follow through on assigned corrective actions.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical problems and recommend practical solutions that reduce operational disruption.

  • Support the development and implementation of mechanical maintenance reliability programs and procedures.

3. Resource, Contractor & Documentation Management

  • Plan and organize human and equipment resources required to deliver departmental objectives.

  • Contribute to the development of maintenance service agreements with customers and contractors.

  • Validate engineering and maintenance data, drawings, and documentation received from project contractors and vendors.

  • Develop, review, and approve technical proposals for outsourced routine, down day, and shutdown maintenance services.

  • Direct emergency repairs and critical inspections while ensuring completed work is properly documented.

4. Plant, Equipment & Spare Parts Availability

  • Maintain company physical assets, including vehicles, machinery, and tools, in reliable operating condition.

  • Recommend new equipment, tools, and machinery that improve plant condition and production output.

  • Identify critical spare parts and specialized tools required under the reliability-centered maintenance program.

  • Support the development of spare parts specifications and supplier lists to strengthen maintenance readiness.

5. Performance, KPI & Budget Contribution

  • Plan and prioritize maintenance activities to deliver cost-effective outcomes within budget.

  • Support the development of maintenance KPIs to monitor performance and execution effectiveness.

  • Deliver performance KPI targets, including safety KPI targets, through disciplined maintenance execution.

  • Provide input to annual maintenance and capital spares planning budgets.

6. Leadership, Training & Capability Development

  • Lead maintenance teams by setting objectives, managing performance, and motivating employees to achieve group requirements.

  • Develop, guide, motivate, and cross-train multicultural maintenance teams to build versatile technical capability.

  • Identify training requirements for technicians and engineers and organize on-the-job training programs.

  • Mentor new and existing maintenance personnel on work controls, maintenance processes, and technical execution.

  • Build an engaged working environment that supports collaboration, ownership, and reliable maintenance delivery.

  • Develop future maintenance leaders to support plant and company capability.

  • Support recruitment of experienced and competent maintenance engineers and technicians.

7. Health, Safety & Environment

  • Promote a Safety First culture across mechanical maintenance activities.

  • Implement operational EHSS Management System requirements across maintenance work.

  • Participate in emergency response and command activities when required.

  • Brief and train mechanical personnel and contractors on MWSPC EHSS regulations and compliance expectations.

  • Participate in accident and incident investigations and support implementation of safety actions.

Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Competencies

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Minimum Experience:

  • 7 years of experience in the maintenance field.
