Main Purpose of Job

A Correctional\r\nSecurity Chief is the highest of three levels of managerial work involving the\r\ncustody, security and control of adult inmates confined in a correctional\r\nfacility. Correctional Security Chief has complete responsibility for security\r\nat institutions with an authorized correctional staff so large as to require\r\nthree Correctional Officer Majors to effectively manage that staff. Employees\r\nin this classification manage the work of correctional officers on three shifts\r\nthrough the supervision of Correctional Officer Majors.\r\n

POSITION DUTIES

�\r\nSupervise uniformed\r\ncorrectional staff as measured by a review of completed annual efficiency\r\nratings, institutional training records and other documents verifying compliance\r\nwith human resource requirements.\r\n�\r\nMaintain the custody\r\nof inmates and the security of the institution as measured by a review of\r\ncompliance audit reports, serious incident reports and other documents\r\nreflecting the overall soundness of institutional security.\r\n�\r\nMake recommendations\r\nconcerning security enhancements, expenditures as measured by a review of the\r\nbudget and modifications made to meet immediate and long term security needs.\r\n�\r\nEnsure that\r\ninvestigations are completed appropriately and in a timely manner.\r\n�\r\nReview all use of\r\nforce incidents and make recommendations.\r\n�\r\nCreate and ensure that\r\nemergency plans are clear, concise and current.\r\n�\r\nReview and make\r\nrecommendations concerning institutional post orders, policies and procedures.\r\n�\r\nManage and make\r\nrecommendations to the Warden concerning staffing and overtime.\r\n�\r\nPlan and schedule post\r\nassignments as measured by a review of post orders, staffing analysis reports,\r\novertime reports and other documents depicting institutional staffing\r\nactivities.\r\n�\r\nCarry out the duties\r\nof the Warden/Assistant Warden in his/her absence as measured by a review of\r\nthe institution's continuity in functioning during the period of absence.\r\n\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all minimum qualifications to be\r\nconsidered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read\r\nall requirements before applying.\r\nEducation: High School diploma or G.E.D. corticated acceptable to the\r\nMaryland State Board of Education as described in the Correctional Training\r\nCommission Regulation.\r\nExperience: Four years of experience supervising the work of\r\nCorrectional Officer Supervisors in the custody and security of adult inmates.\r\nNotes:\r\n1. Additional education at an\r\naccredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of sixty credit\r\nhours for one year of the required experience provided that a minimum of 15\r\ncredit hours are in the field of criminal justice or related social sciences.\r\n2. Employees in this\r\nclassification are subject to be on call 24 hours a day and must have a\r\ntelephone at their place of residence.\r\n3. Employees appointed to this\r\nposition are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of\r\nMaryland Regulation 17.04.09, Testing for illegal Use of Drugs.\r\n\r\n\r\n4. Employees who have not\r\nalready done so must meet the selection standards required and successful\r\ncomplete the training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training\r\nCommission.\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate must be fluent in spoken and written\r\nEnglish. The ideal candidate must effectively and respectfully communicate with\r\ndiverse populations, providing services to individuals with different beliefs,\r\nbehaviors, and interpersonal styles in confinement or community settings.\r\nProfessional working fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, or any other\r\nlanguage is a plus.\r\n
