Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is examining, analyzing and interpreting accounting\r\nsystems, records and reports by applying generally accepted accounting principles in order to\r\nmodify and maintain agency accounting systems, prepare financial reports or statements and\r\ngive fiscal advice to management. This position will perform specialized duties\r\nin the areas of cost accounting, systems accounting, federal fund accounting or bond and loan\r\naccounting. Employees in this classification do not supervise Accountants.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:� �A Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing. \r\nExperience: Three years of experience examining, analyzing and interpreting accounting systems, records and reports by applying generally accepted accounting principles. \r\nNotes: \r\n1. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with thirty credit hours in Accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing for the required education. \r\n2. Applicants who have met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above. \r\n3. Possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or a master's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience. \r\n4. Applicants may substitute one year of professional auditing experience for one year of the required experience. \r\n5.�Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Accounting Officer classification or Financial Management specialty codes in the Accounting field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.\r\n\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate should possess:\r\n\r\n\r\n Certified Public Accountant(CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) background.\r\n Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs).\r\n Experience with ERP systems, and financial software like FMIS, Web Focus, or Portfol.\r\n Experience in budget preparation, cost allocation, financial reporting, and GAAP compliance.\r\n Strong analytical, and critical thinking skills, along with experience in supervising staff or handling complex reconciliations.\r\n\r\n\r\n
