Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this Health Officer position is to direct and manage the activities of the Somerset County Health Department.� The County Health Officer assesses community health needs, plans, develops, implements, directs, coordinates, evaluates and provides leadership in a variety of public health programs; coordinates programmatic activities with federal, state and local agencies; enforces laws and regulations that protect the health and safety of the public; monitors for, investigates and controls outbreaks of disease; informs the public about disease prevention and promotes healthy behaviors; and assures that the public health workforce remains competent.� The Health Officer is also the executive officer of the County Boards of Health.\r\n\r\n\r\nThis position may require evening and weekend hours and is considered Emergency Essential.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a Master's degree in Public Health, from an accredited college or university, and a minimum of two (2) years of work experience in the field of public health OR a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five (5) years of work experience in the field of public health.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Somerset County Department of Health is looking for a candidate who has excellent people skills, knowledge of health policy formulation, community needs assessment, health planning, and financial management of public health services. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and successful collaboration, change management and conflict management experience is also desired.\r\n
