MPT is Maryland's only statewide broadcaster. Headquartered in Owings Mills, MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and is a producer of both locally and nationally distributed TV programs and digital content.\r\n\r\n�\r\n

Main Purpose of Job
Working under the supervision of the Chief Engineer for the Transmission & Distribution Engineering\r\nUnit, based out of Owings Mills, MD, the Transmitter Maintenance Engineer will ensure the proper\r\noperation, maintenance, and repair of all facilities and equipment related to the distribution and\r\ntransmission of MPT's broadcast signals, including: high power UHF DTV transmitters and related\r\nbroadcast equipment; 480V 3-phase power; HVAC systems; diesel generators; and CCTV camera\r\nsystems. In support of this, frequent travel to MPT's seven transmitter/tower sites and related\r\nmicrowave sites, distributed across the state of Maryland, is required.
POSITION DUTIES
\r\nMaintain On-Air Operations: Utilize technical skills to\r\ntroubleshoot, repair, and calibrate broadcast\r\nequipment, minimizing downtime and ensuring seamless broadcasting.\r\nElectronics Repair: Demonstrate proficiency in reading schematics,\r\ntroubleshooting, and repairing circuit\r\nboards down to the component level.\r\nEquipment Installation: Install, test, and configure broadcast\r\nsystems, including component integration\r\nand wiring within equipment racks.\r\nPreventive Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance and cleaning\r\nto ensure equipment compliance\r\nwith MPT and FCC regulations.\r\nNetwork Configuration: Configure and troubleshoot microwave,\r\nfiber-optic, and TCP/IP networks, as\r\nwell as Windows and Linux-based systems and software.\r\nEffective Communication: Interact professionally and efficiently\r\nwith contractors, vendors, tower\r\ntenants, equipment manufacturers, and MPT staff.\r\nFacility Upkeep: Contribute to the maintenance and cleanliness of\r\nMPT tower sites, including building,\r\nfacility, janitorial, and grounds-keeping tasks.\r\n\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
\r\nAssociate’s\r\nDegree in Electronics or Computer Science, or an equivalent combination of\r\nrelated course\r\nwork\r\nand experience, and at least two years of experience in a television broadcast\r\nenvironment or\r\nrelated\r\nfield. Note: Experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the\r\nrequired education\r\nonly.\r\nFor education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American\r\neducation as\r\ndetermined\r\nby a foreign credential evaluation service must accompany the application.\r\nResumes\r\nwill NOT be accepted in lieu of completing the online or paper application.\r\n\r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
\r\nFederal\r\nCommunications Commission (FCC) General Radiotelephone Operator License or\r\nSociety of\r\nBroadcast\r\nEngineers (SBE) certification preferred.\r\n\r\n
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
\r\nEmployees\r\nin this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a\r\nmotor vehicle.\r\nEmployees\r\nassigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle\r\noperators license, valid in\r\nthe\r\nState of Maryland.\r\n\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Transmitter Maintenance Engineer must maintain 24/7 on-call availability status and may be required to\r\nwork a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays. Work may occur outdoors in\r\nunfavorable weather conditions. Applicant should be able to lift equipment up to, but no more than, 50\r\nlbs. Applicant must be able to climb ladders to work on transmission line, lighting, building rooftop\r\nequipment, and to install equipment in 7-foot racks.\r\n
