Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. \r\n**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations** \r\n

Nature of Work

The fundamental\r\nreason this classification exists is to perform technical engineering work in\r\nthe field and office.� This\r\nclassification is responsible for environmental ground water and storm water\r\nsampling for the City of Montgomery.� The\r\nmajor work responsibilities may include: monitoring ground water wells; monitoring permanent storm water sites;\r\nmonitoring methane gas wells; investigating unlawful discharges to the storm\r\nwater system; inspecting construction site erosion and sedimentation control\r\nmeasures and industrial facilities; preparing reports for ground water, storm\r\nwater, methane gas, and unlawful discharges; serving as an environmental\r\neducational coordinator; performing\r\ndemolition coordination duties; and supervising two or more full-time\r\nemployees.� Incumbents of this\r\nclassification work within a framework of established procedures and are\r\nexpected to perform all the duties assigned to the position with only\r\noccasional instructions or assistance.\r\nThe Engineering Technician III is distinguished from the Engineering\r\nTechnician II by the increased complexity of assignments, decision-making\r\nresponsibility and level of supervision received and exercised by the\r\nTechnician III classification. �Familiar\r\nassignments are received with general instructions while new work is performed\r\nunder supervision of the Assistant City Engineer and City Engineer.\r\n

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or G.E.D. and\r\nfive (5) years of experience in environmental ground water or storm water\r\nsampling.� BA in Biology, Chemistry,\r\nEnvironmental Science, or closely related degree may substitute for required\r\nexperience on a year-for-year basis.\r\n\r\n\r\nNOTE:� Qualifying education, training and experience\r\nthat provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job\r\nwill be considered\r\n\r\n

Special Requirements

Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License\r\nand insurable driving record as needed to operate a City vehicle to travel to\r\nvarious job sites.� Must be willing to\r\nwork nights, or weekends as needed to meet deadlines or prepare and complete\r\nspecial projects.\r\n
