Nature of Work
The fundamental reason this position exists\r\nis to assist in the medicine, surgery, preventative medicine, and quarantine\r\nprograms of the Montgomery Zoo. The work responsibilities of the position are:\r\nperforms routine and diagnostic laboratory testing, assists in medical\r\nprocedures, performs administrative related functions such as records keeping\r\nand inventory, and contributes to the department's objectives. This position\r\nreports to Zoo Veterinarian.\r\n
Minimum Qualifications
Must\r\nhave an Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology or a closely related field,\r\na current Veterinary Technician License is required, and one (1) year of veterinary\r\ntechnician experience at an animal shelter, veterinary clinic, or other animal\r\ncare facility.� �\r\n\r\n\r\nNOTE:� Qualifying education, training, and\r\nexperience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to\r\nperform the job will be considered.\r\n\r\n
Special Requirements
Must be able to work weekends and holidays\r\nand special events. Must have and maintain a valid Alabama Driver’s license and\r\nan insurable driving record in order to drive city vehicles to transport\r\nmedical materials to provide on-sight medical assistance to animals. Qualified\r\napplicants must submit to a\r\nmedical exam following a conditional job offer to demonstrate that they are TB\r\nnegative.�Must live within\r\nthirty-minutes of the Montgomery Zoo in order to respond to emergencies as they\r\narise; or be willing to relocate within the first six months.\r\n
Kind of Examination
Applications are being accepted to fill�one (1) vacancy and any other vacancies that may occur during the life of the register.� The current vacancy�is with the�City of Montgomery Zoo.�Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire.� For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application and supplemental questionnaire�form completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were. If more than five qualified applications are received, a selection procedure will be�administered to rank applicants on the register. Tied scores will not be broken.
