Director, Total Rewards

The Director, Total Rewards will lead the design, implementation, and administration of the company’s total rewards strategy—including compensation, equity, benefits, and wellness programs—to attract, motivate, and retain top scientific, technical, and commercial talent in a highly competitive biotech environment.

This role partners closely with executive leadership, HR business partners, Finance, Legal, and external advisors to ensure total rewards programs are market-competitive, scalable, compliant, and aligned with business objectives and company culture.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive total rewards strategy aligned with business goals, organizational growth stage (e.g., pre‑clinical, clinical, commercial), and talent needs.
  • Serve as the subject-matter expert for compensation, benefits, and equity programs, ensuring alignment with company philosophy and values.
  • Establish governance processes, policies, and controls to support consistent and compliant rewards practices globally.

What We Offer

Lead the design, administration, and ongoing evaluation of base pay, annual incentive, long-term incentive, and equity programs. Partner with Finance on equity programs.
Partner with Finance and Legal on executive compensation, including preparation of materials for the Compensation Committee and Board of Directors.
Manage annual compensation cycles, including merit increases, bonus planning & payout, equity refresh grants, and market adjustments.
Conduct market pricing, benchmarking, and pay equity analyses to support competitive and equitable pay practices.
Design, implement and oversee sales incentive plans, including creation of plan documentation, the quarterly objective setting process and the calculation of payouts in partnership with Commercial Leadership and Finance.
  • Partner with Legal, Finance, and external vendors on equity compliance, disclosures, and governance.

Design and manage competitive, cost-effective benefits programs, including health and welfare, retirement, time-off, allowances, fleet and wellbeing initiatives.
Ensure benefits programs meet the needs of a diverse, global workforce while maintaining cost control and compliance.
Lead benefits renewals, vendor selection, and broker relationships.
Oversee leave of absence programs, including FMLA, STD/LTD, parental leave, and accommodations, ensuring compliance and a positive employee experience.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable compensation and benefits regulations (e.g., wage and hour, pay transparency, SEC, ERISA, global labor laws).
  • Develop dashboards and analytics to evaluate program effectiveness, cost trends, and talent impact.
  • Oversee total rewards operations, systems, and vendors to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and positive employee experience.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to HRBPs and business leaders on rewards-related decisions.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop total rewards team members (as applicable).
  • Partner cross functionally to support organizational growth, M&A, and transformation initiatives.
  • Manage and coordinate employee training and communications regarding compensation and wellness- benefit enrollment and updates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive total rewards experience, including compensation and benefits leadership
  • Experience in a biotech, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or similarly complex, regulated industries in a commercial stage organization.
  • Strong knowledge of equity compensation and long-term incentive programs.
  • Proven experience partnering with executive leadership and Boards or Compensation Committees.
  • Proficiency with HRIS and compensation management platforms (e.g., Workday, Radford/WTW) and equity administration systems.

Nice to Have

  • Master’s degree (MBA, MHRM, or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting high-growth commercial biotech organizations.
  • Professional certifications such as CCP, CBP, GRP, or CEBS.
  • Global total rewards experience across multiple regions.

  • This position requires up to 10% travel.  Frequently travel is outside the local area and overnight. Some of the travel may be international. 

These positions are eligible for standard Company benefits including medical, dental, vision, time off and 401K, as well as participating in Mineralys incentive plans are contingent on achievement of personal and company performance. Actual compensation may vary from posted hiring range based on geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level.

US Salary Range:  $190,000 - $215,000
