JOB SUMMARY

Provide friendly, responsive service to create an exceptional dining experience for all of our guests. Each server's  primary objective is to show our guests such a marvellous time that they will want to return again and again. The Food & Beverage Servers must take and deliver orders according to the company standards and in a timely manner.


SCOPE

Under the directive of the Bar/Restaurant Supervisor, the Food & Beverage Server is responsible for creating positive guest interactions while serving guests in a friendly and efficient manner.



RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Always promotes him/herself in keeping with the high standards of appearance and conduct.
  • Be knowledgeable of the hotel facts, facilities, and amenities eg. the gym, kids club, teen lounge and business center. Encompassing the product available within the Ocean Hotels Group.
  • Greet guests with a warm and gracious welcome.
  • Informs guests about any special items or menu changes. 
  • Setting up the restaurant to the Ocean Hotels standard.
    • Check and reset all table settings, i.e. glasses, cutlery, salt & pepper centerpieces.
    • Ensure all elements of the table settings and equipment necessary for service are clean, polished, and ready to use before service.
    • Clean coffee machine before & after service.
    • Clean trays, side stands and cover with tablecloth.
    • Count and take out linen at the end of all meal periods.
    • Ensure all labels are correctly placed on the buffet & to the company standard.
    • Ensure the coffee station is fully set up.
    • Take food & beverage orders on the order pads or by the handheld Point of sale (POS) system.
    • Coordinate with the kitchen and bar staff to ensure a smooth operation and guest satisfaction by establishing accurate and clear communication between team members.
    • Collect orders from the kitchen in a timely manner and deliver to the guests in the restaurant.
    • Effectively keep track of order times and communicate with the Restaurant Supervisor when orders are delayed.
    • Upsell food and beverages items and provide recommendations on menus to increase sales and provide a memorable guest experience.
    • Obtaining revenues, issuing receipts, accepting payments. 
    • Service of food and beverages to the guest as per the course of order in food and beverage Outlets, Room Service and Beach
    • Tidy  cupboards.
    • Make sure all meetings or coffee breaks are fully set up and broken down in a timely manner.
    • Ensure chairs are aligned and matching the suitable table.
    • Ensure you don’t leave your assigned station unattended.
      • Ensure all Room Service trays are prepared for the following day to the company standard.
      • Responsible for advising immediately, the Restaurant Manager or any other appropriate department head, anything which is considered to be a health or safety hazard.
      • To attend and participate in any training programs as directed by the HR team and Restaurant Manager.
      • To thoroughly review and understand the information contained within the Ocean Hotels Employee handbook since as an employee of Ocean Hotels Barbados, you are governed by the rules and stipulations contained within.
      • To actively participate in an evaluation of your performance by means of an appraisal with your leadership team. In order to correct weaknesses, encourage strengths and work to achieve personal and professional goals.
      • To be totally security conscious, being aware of any unregistered guests, lurkers and your general surroundings. Advising the security team of such.
      • To attend Fire/ Emergency Training Program and to ensure that the hotel's and department's fire and emergency procedures are understood.
      • Must operate in full compliance with the AAA standards and all Ocean hotels regulations and policies.
      • To comply with statutory and legal requirements for fire, health and safety, hygiene, licensing and employment.
      • Must have problem solving skills; the ability to resolve problems and see them through to a logical conclusion.
      • Performs any other ancillary duty as required by supervisors or management. 
      • Willing to assist fellow servers as situations arise.
      • As a course of Business you may be asked to work overtime or be given added responsibilities throughout the shift. 
      • Perform side duties at the start and end of each shift as required.
      • Maintain cleanliness of work areas, china, glassware, lounge areas etc., throughout the day.
      • Monitor operating supplies, equipment and reduce spoilage and wastage successfully and assist in carrying out scheduled inventories of products and operating equipment.
      • Observes guests needs and ensures customer satisfaction with the food and service.
      • Responsible for cleaning and removing food trolleys/trays from guest rooms and corridors.
      • Maintaining proper dining experience, delivering items, fulfilling customer needs, offering 
      • Adhere to grooming and appearance standards on a consistent basis.
      • Assist with stocking and maintain the restaurant par stock levels and side stations.
      • In addition to the duties which this job normally entails, you will be required to be flexible and must be prepared to undertake any other task necessary to achieve the objectives of the restaurant and the hotel. 


      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES


      Knowledge

      The Food & Beverage Server must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

      • Previous experience in a four-diamond resort  would be an asset. 
      • Understand, speak, read and write English at CXC level or equivalent.
      • Level 2 or above National Vocational Qualification in Food and Drink Service
      • Basic knowledge of food presentation, preparation and handling. 
      • Possess basic math skills and have the ability to handle cash and operate a point-of-sale system (POS) (where applicable).
      • Minimum of 6 months experience working in a 5 diamond establishment.

      The Food & Beverage Server must demonstrate the following skills:

      • Basic computer skills. 
      • Time management skills.
      • Read and write English fluently.
      • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
      • Must be neat, professional and well groomed.
      • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. (lifting above the shoulder is also required)
      • Ability to relate well to hotel guests and employees.
      • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and request clarification when needed.
      • A positive attitude and outgoing personality is essential.
      • Must be able to work shifts. (days, evening, weekends, holidays)
      • Must be able to cultivate positive relationships with hotel guests to make their experience memorable.
