The Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University (MSU Broad Art Museum) is seeking an engaged and motivated communications assistant to support the communications department through quality-focused drafting, implementation, and management of museum messaging. This role requires an active, working knowledge of museum initiatives, content, and programming, and a background in writing and producing content for social media, web, e-newsletters, and public relations opportunities. The communications assistant reports to the director of communications and marketing.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Supports the museum’s mission, vision, and values through commitment to exemplary visitor experience, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all museum constituents.
- →Participates in a team culture of ongoing learning, collaboration, innovation, creativity, and community engagement.
- →Maintains working knowledge of museum initiatives, content, and programming.
- →Manages messaging quality and coordination for the museum. Supports organizational efforts to maintain consistent institutional voice and editorial standards.
- →Assists with the management of the editorial calendar.
- →Leads content planning and ideation for social media.
- →Drafts content for social media, e-newsletters, press releases, and ads.
- →Reviews and refines student staff-generated content before director of communications and marketing’s review.
- →Manages online inquiries and provides exemplary digital customer service.
- →Accurately maintains the museum’s social media accounts including publishing, listening, and timely and thoughtful audience engagement.
- →Pulls and interprets analytics (social, email, web).
- →Maintains accurate and current information on the museum’s website and other online platforms. Troubleshoots issues promptly.
- →Ensures content follows digital accessibility standards.
- →Supports media and vendor visits as needed.
- →Other administrative duties as assigned.
Requirements
~2 min readKnowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Journalism, Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, Communications, or a related field; at least two years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, communications, and public/media relations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver's license may be required for position duties
- Computer proficiency including MS Office, Adobe software, and museum-specific software systems
- Knowledge of Wordpress CMS, Mailchimp, and Sprinklr preferred

- Strong writing skills with superb attention to detail.
- Experience creating content (writing, filming, photographing) for social media and other online platforms.

- Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills are required.
- Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail are required.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office software are required.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
- Experience with Wordpress CMS preferred.
- Experience with Mailchimp preferred.
- Experience with Sprinklr preferred.
- Interest in contemporary art and/or museums preferred.
- Standard business hours with flexibility for evening and weekend events.
