On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.
The Heath-Heckman and Braasch Labs at Michigan State University are hiring for a full-time, joint animal technician to 1. care for the Heath-Heckman Lab bobtail squid facility (50% of the time) and to 2. care for the Braasch Lab Ancient Fish Facility (50% of the time). Duties include aquarium and equipment maintenance, animal care and welfare checks, water chemistry measurement and maintenance, record keeping, facility organization and cleaning, oversight of facility users, instruction of undergraduate facility assistants, and liaison to IACUC and EHS. Previous experience with salt and freshwater aquarium maintenance and aquatic animal care as well as a personal vehicle are required. Routinely need to lift/wrangle boxes of instant ocean that weigh about 60 lbs and 5 gallon buckets of water which weigh about 45 lbs, as well as boxes of shipped fish and shrimp which are about 30 lbs.
