We're looking for a Transaction Monitoring Analyst (TMA) who is naturally curious, analytical, and passionate about uncovering patterns that others might miss. If you enjoy investigations, solving complex problems, and combating financial crime, this opportunity could be your next career move.
Responsibilities
~1 min readAs a Transaction Monitoring Analyst, you'll be on the front line of protecting Mukuru from financial crime risks. You'll investigate unusual transaction activity, identify emerging threats, and help ensure that our AML/CFT controls remain effective and compliant.
- Review and investigate transaction monitoring alerts.
- Analyse customer behaviour, transactional activity, and risk indicators.
- Identify potential money laundering, terrorist financing, mule activity, structuring, and other suspicious activities.
- Produce clear, comprehensive investigation findings and recommendations.
- Escalate high-risk or suspicious activity when required.
- Support enhanced due diligence investigations.
- Identify emerging financial crime trends and control weaknesses.
- Help strengthen risk management processes across the business.
- Conduct audits and quality reviews.
- Compile transaction monitoring statistics and corridor reports.
- Share trends, patterns, and observations with stakeholders.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance investigation quality and efficiency.
- Partner with colleagues across Financial Crime and internal teams.
- Participate in team discussions on emerging threats and trends.
- Stay up to date with evolving AML/CFT regulations, typologies, and industry best practices.
- Continuously develop your professional expertise within the financial crime space.
- Minimum 2 years' experience within a Money Service Business (MSB) or similar financial services environment.
- Experience in Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Financial Crime Compliance, Transaction Monitoring, or a related field.
- Proven experience investigating potentially suspicious financial activity.
- Experience analysing transactional and customer data to support investigations.
Requirements
~1 min read- Qualification in Finance, Law, Compliance, Risk Management, Criminology, or a related field will be advantageous.
- AML/CFT certifications such as ACAMS will be highly advantageous.
- Understanding of AML/CFT principles and financial crime risks.
- Knowledge of the FIC Act and relevant South African regulatory requirements.
- Understanding of Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), suspicious transaction reporting, and transaction monitoring practices.
- Knowledge of remittance and money transfer processes
