Mullins Mechanical is a leader in industrial and large commercial mechanical, plumbing, HVAC construction projects. Our projects are often in the industrial and manufacturing environments, such as manufacturing facilities, automotive plants, chemical plants, distribution centers, warehouses, and other large commercial facilities.  We are a self-performing specialty contractor specializing in design-build applications, HVAC systems, plumbing, process piping systems, boiler and chiller systems, equipment installation and rigging, plant relocation and maintenance, and metal fabrication.  

 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Operate different types of equipment and cranes (e.g., tower cranes, mobile cranes, overhead cranes, forklifts, reach lifts, excavators, skid steers, boom lifts, or other site-specific machinery.) to move heavy materials. 
  • Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance of equipment to ensure safe operation. 
  • Support crews in setting and moving pipe, valves, equipment, and structural components. 
  • Assist in excavation, grading, backfilling, and trenching for piping and mechanical system installations. 
  • Follow and use safety procedures and load limits to prevent accidents or equipment damage. 
  • Interpret load charts, blueprints, and work orders to determine lifting requirements. 
  • Communicate with ground personnel and signalers using hand signals, radios, or other methods. 
  • Perform routine maintenance and report any mechanical issues. 
  • Secure loads properly using slings, hooks, chains, and other rigging equipment. 
  • Work in coordination with other construction and logistics teams to complete tasks efficiently. 
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment use, inspections, and fuel logs. 
  • Support general labor and material handling tasks when equipment operation is not required. 
  • Adhere to site-specific and regulatory safety standards, including OSHA guidelines. 
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, mechanical engineering or equivalent field experience. 
  • 2+ years of experience operating heavy equipment in construction (mechanical or piping projects preferred). 
  • Strong understanding of piping systems, plumbing codes, mechanical equipment, and construction practices. 
  • Proficiency with construction drawings, specifications, and related documents. 
  • Ability to read and follow site maps, layouts, and supervisor instructions. 
  • Experience with project management software, Procore, Bluebeam, Revit, and other project management software. 
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to work in the field and adapt to changing site conditions. 
  • OSHA 30 certification and Strong safety awareness and knowledge of OSHA requirements. 

 

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Work at heights — including ladders, scaffolds, lifts, platforms, mezzanines, and elevated structures up to and exceeding 100 feet. 
  • Work around moving equipment — such as forklifts, cranes, aerial lifts, skid steers, and other heavy machinery. 
  • Standing and walking for extended periods  
  • Perform physically demanding tasks — including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and reaching. 
  • Maintain situational awareness in dynamic, noisy, and highhazard environments. 
  • Use required PPE including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, fall protection, and respiratory protection when applicable. 
  • Work in confined or restricted spaces as required by project scope. 
  • Operate or use hand and power tools safely and effectively. 
  • Follow safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and hazardcontrol measures. 
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and equipment operators using verbal instructions, radios, and hand signals. 

 

Physical Demands: 

  • Lifting and carrying materials and equipment up to 50 lbs frequently 
  • Working on uneven terrain including dirt, gravel, mud, rebar mats, and unfinished surfaces. 
  • Climbing ladders and stairs repeatedly throughout the workday. 
  • Bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching to perform installation, repair, or inspection tasks. 
  • Repetitive motions including gripping, twisting, hammering, and tool operation. 
  • Full use of hands, arms, legs, and balance to safely navigate job sites and perform tasks. 
  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to identify hazards, read instructions, and communicate in highnoise environments. 

 

Environmental Conditions: 

  • Yearround outdoor environments including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind. 
  • Industrial indoor environments such as data centers, manufacturing floors, mechanical rooms, and utility spaces. 
  • Highnoise areas requiring hearing protection. 
  • Dusty, dirty, or fumeproducing environments depending on project scope. 
  • Tight or congested workspaces with multiple trades working simultaneously. 
  • Varying lighting conditions including lowlight or tasklightonly areas. 

 

Cognitive & SafetyCritical Requirements 

  • Maintain alertness and awareness for long periods. 
  • Recognize and avoid hazards including fall hazards, electrical hazards, pinch points, and equipment movement. 
  • Follow written and verbal instructions accurately. 
  • Make quick, safe decisions in changing conditions. 
  • Work independently or as part of a team depending on task needs.
