Senior Superintendent-Commissioning

Responsibilities

- →Execute the commissioning plan developed by the Commissioning Project Manager.
- →Direct and supervise all daily field commissioning activities on assigned projects.
- →Lead commissioning technicians, startup personnel, subcontractors, manufacturers, and specialty vendors throughout commissioning activities.
- →Coordinate daily manpower, work assignments, and commissioning priorities.
- →Develop and maintain daily and weekly startup schedules that align with project milestones.
- →Coordinate equipment startup with manufacturers, controls contractors, TAB agencies, electrical contractors, and subcontractors.
- →Verify that systems are complete, operational, and ready for startup prior to commissioning activities.
- →Supervise startup and functional performance testing of HVAC, plumbing, process piping, mechanical equipment, controls, and integrated building systems.
- →Coordinate system flushing, pressure testing, balancing, controls integration, and equipment verification.
- →Identify commissioning deficiencies, troubleshoot system issues, coordinate corrective actions, and verify successful resolution.
- →Maintain field commissioning punch lists, deficiency logs, startup records, and testing documentation.
- →Coordinate commissioning activities with Project Superintendents, Project Managers, Project Engineers, Quality, Safety, and field operations personnel.
- →Ensure commissioning activities comply with contract requirements, project specifications, manufacturer recommendations, and company quality standards.
- →Conduct startup safety meetings and ensure compliance with Lockout/Tagout procedures and other commissioning safety requirements.
- →Support owner demonstrations, training sessions, and final system turnover.
- →Submit complete and accurate field commissioning documentation to the Commissioning Project Manager for project closeout.
- →Mentor field personnel on commissioning procedures, startup best practices, and safe execution of commissioning activities.
- →Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Requirements
~2 min read- High school diploma or GED required; technical degree, apprenticeship, or trade certification preferred.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in mechanical construction, HVAC, plumbing, process piping, controls, startup, or commissioning.
- Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience leading field operations on large-scale construction projects.
- Extensive experience with equipment startup, testing, balancing, controls integration, and system commissioning.
- Thorough understanding of construction sequencing, field operations, startup procedures, and integrated building systems.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, P&IDs, equipment submittals, control diagrams, and sequences of operation.
- Strong troubleshooting, leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience coordinating subcontractors, equipment manufacturers, and specialty vendors during commissioning activities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Procore, Bluebeam, and construction management software.
- OSHA 30 certification required or ability to obtain.
- Commissioning certification (CxA, CCP, CBCP, QCxP, or equivalent) preferred.
- Ability to travel extensively to assigned project sites.
Maintain alertness and awareness for long periods.
- Recognize and avoid hazards including fall hazards, electrical hazards, pinch points, and equipment movement.
- Follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Make quick, safe decisions in changing conditions.
- Work independently or as part of a team depending on task needs.
