The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. Salary Grade Range: $52,592.00 - $93,036.00
A Sign-on bonus of $5,000 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting, contingent on the 2025-2026 Budget Approval.

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
- Knowledge of assessment and counseling/therapy principles and their practical application to complex casework, group-work, crisis intervention, and community issues
- Knowledge of social, psychological, and developmental theory, psychopathology, substance abuse, and differential diagnosis; ethical standards and practices of professional social work; and group facilitator skills. Must demonstrate basic knowledge of trauma informed care as well as psychiatric disorders
- Ability to represent all disciplines of PST in treatment team meetings by making recommendations for treatment goals and interventions and reporting on patient progress in department programs
- Ability to deal competently with conflict and volatile individuals and situations discussing sensitive emotional topics in a supportive, non-threatening manner
- Ability to speak and write clearly with patients and staff
Conditional Requirement:
- Ability to successfully complete all required initial one-time trainings and hospital/clinical orientations. Successful annual completion of hospital training, NVCI training, discipline specific training, and required departmental training. Acquire relevant in-service training hours to maintain licensure as a LCSW, per NC statute
This position is Exempt from certain provisions of The State Human Resources Act (GS 126)
This position is designated as mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

Master’s degree from an appropriately accredited school of social work.
Licensure is required from NC SW Certification and Licensure Board.
Necessary Special Qualification Requirements - One must fulfill all requirements for Licensure in North Carolina as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker as required by the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board.
If there are no qualified applicants remaining in the applicant pool who meet the minimum Education and Experience or Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position, the agency may consider for this position, a trainee who does not meet the minimum requirements. Salary for a trainee may be set at a lower level than the classification range and recruitment range that is listed in the posting with the salary being adjusted up accordingly as the trainee has obtained the necessary additional education and experience to fully meet the minimum qualifications as outlined in the classification specification.
Trainee Appointment may be considered at a salary of $52,000-$58,000 based on experience with a Master's Degree from an accredited school of social work and provisional licensure.
