$18.00 - $20.25 Hourly

About the Role

The Maintenance Mechanic performs a variety of general maintenance, repair, installation, and support activities to ensure campus buildings, equipment, and facilities remain safe, functional, and well maintained. This position responds to work requests, completes routine building repairs, assists with furniture assembly and relocation, surplus and inventory activities, and performs general carpentry, plumbing, lighting, and facility maintenance tasks within their training and qualifications. The Maintenance Mechanic also serves as a flexible member of the Facilities Management team, assisting skilled trades personnel with preventive maintenance, repairs, equipment installations, renovations, and special projects. This position works collaboratively across trades, provides additional manpower where needed, communicates effectively with campus customers, and supports the overall operation and maintenance of campus facilities.

Requirements

  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Assist all crafts as assigned by Supervisor.

  • Expert knowledge in performing tasks is not expected.  However, over a period of time, the Maintenance Mechanic should develop to the point that s/he can complete tasks independently. 

  • Perform all phases of general, aesthetic, and preventative maintenance within supervisor’s guidelines. 

  • Responsible for assisting with projects mechanical and MEP related.  

  • Make repairs to general facilities to include, but not limited to, general carpentry repairs, perform minor paint and patch work, repairs to ceiling and floor coverings, doors, windows, and furniture.

  • Repair or replace various plumbing fixtures and hardware. 

  • Unclog sluggish or stopped drains. 

  • Safe lifting practices and procedures.

  • Knowledge of light fixtures and various types of bulbs and ballasts.

  • Ability to assemble office furniture, hang large white boards, bulletin boards, etc., and experience in the use of hand and power tools. 

  • Consciousness of safety procedures. 

  • Provide excellent customer service. 

  • Work overtime as needed.  

  • Employee in this position is required to work overtime when work requires.   
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds, climb, stoop, reach, stand, walk, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions with or without reasonable accommodations.
