Staff Software Engineer

The Okta Agentic Services Team is at the forefront of AI integration, building the next generation of tools that empower customers to seamlessly utilize Okta alongside AI Agents. Our primary mission is pioneering robust infrastructure using the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to deeply connect AI models with Okta's core capabilities. We are also highly committed to empowering the broader developer ecosystem, actively contributing to Open Source SDKs that simplify how builders incorporate Okta into their AI-driven workflows. By championing these open standards and open-source tools, we provide the foundational building blocks necessary to shape the future of secure, intelligent applications.

• Design and develop the next generation of AI-enabled tools that allow Okta customers to seamlessly utilize AI agents, heavily leveraging the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
• Actively build, maintain, and contribute to Open Source SDKs, empowering the broader developer community to easily incorporate Okta into their AI-driven applications and workflows.

• Design, develop, and maintain highly available, scalable, and resilient services and applications, including clear low-level designs, robust APIs, and effective data models.
• Own end-to-end technical solutions across multiple services or components, ensuring code quality, observability, security, and operational readiness.
• Collaborate with product, design, and cross-functional engineering teams to translate business and customer requirements into technical solutions that can be reused across domains.
• Lead code and design reviews, drive engineering best practices, and mentor other engineers to improve technical execution and maintain high standards.
• Diagnose complex production issues, improve reliability and performance through data-driven analysis, and enhance CI/CD pipelines and operational tooling.
• Safely integrate and operate AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.

• Raise the Bar: Champion sustainable engineering practices. You will be the standard-bearer for best-in-class code, documentation, testing, and monitoring, guiding the team toward the next generation of our fintech systems.
• Be a Trusted Mentor: Serve as a humble mentor and technical advisor to both junior engineers and peer leaders. You will foster an environment of psychological safety, helping teams navigate differences in opinion to commit and move forward effectively.
• Force Multiplier: Act as a role model for judgment and responsibility. Engineers across the organization will look to you for guidance on how to plan, execute, and deliver high-leverage solutions that impact the entire group.

• Strong computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and advanced system design.
• 8+ years of experience working on backend and distributed systems.
• Deep expertise in Java, Spring/Spring Boot, and SQL/NoSQL databases.
• Experience designing and evolving the architecture of multi-service or domain-level systems, including well-structured APIs, data models, and integration patterns.
• Demonstrated success improving performance, reliability, and scalability of high-traffic or mission-critical systems using data-driven analysis and experimentation.
• Experience driving engineering excellence initiatives such as test automation, CI/CD improvements, security hardening, and operational best practices.
• Hands-on experience integrating or operating AI/ML‑enabled capabilities within production services or workflows, including responsible use of AI to enhance user or business outcomes.
• Familiarity with AI-driven developer productivity or observability tools and applying AI-related techniques in a way that is appropriate and safe for large-scale software systems.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and business teams.
