More than one million people in the United States today are fighting blood cancer. While a traditional allogeneic stem cell transplant has been the best hope for many, the transplant itself can prove fatal or lead to serious conditions, such as graft vs. host disease. Orca Bio is a late-stage biotechnology company redefining the transplant process by developing next-generation cell therapies with the goal of providing significantly better survival rates with dramatically fewer risks. With our purified, high-precision investigational cell therapies we hope to not only replace patients' blood and immune systems with healthy ones, but also restore their lives.

We have built a state-of-the-art, 100,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Sacramento, CA (7910 Metro Air Pkwy) to ensure the consistent and reliable delivery of our high-precision cell therapy products. This site is essential to advancing our clinical pipeline and supporting future commercial availability of our life-saving therapies.

Summary: Orca Bio is seeking qualified part-time contractors to provide specialized courier services in support of our mission to deliver life-saving cellular therapies for bone marrow donation and transplantation. This role involves the secure, timely, and compliant transport of blood components and related materials from our laboratory facilities to hospitals and treatment centers nationwide.

As a Cell Therapy Medical Courier (known internally as "Orca Porter"), you will operate as a professional service provider in transporting high-sensitive medical specimens, while adhering to strict handling, documentation, and chain-of-custody protocols. Successful contractors demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, and strong communication skills, along with the professionalism and discretion required to represent Orca Bio in a highly regulated and time-sensitive clinical environment.
  • Production Associate Roles: Must have visual acuity of 20/20 (corrected or uncorrected) and normal color vision to safely perform critical tasks such as visual inspection of materials, equipment, and labeling, including distinguishing color-coded components in a GMP environment.
  • Most roles must be able to meet cleanroom gowning requirements, including wearing full gowning (face coverings, gloves, hoods, goggles) for extended periods, as needed. Use of cosmetics (makeup, painted nails), jewelry, or facial piercings is not permitted in the cleanroom, and any skin conditions that cause shedding must be disclosed.
  • Many roles must be able to work at either Orca Bio Sacramento location (3400 Business Dr. or 7910 Metro Air Pkwy) based on operational needs, as well as regularly participate in video-based meetings. Also, may be required to work scheduled overtime, weekends, or holidays based on business needs.
  • Secure Transport of Critical Medical Materials: Safely transport and maintain continuous custody of highly-sensitive medical specimens, often involving air travel, until delivery is completed at the patient’s hospital, clinical site, or one of our Manufacturing sites.
  • Professional Representation: Demonstrate the highest levels of professionalism, empathy, and courtesy when interacting with airline personnel, TSA agents, medical staff, caregivers, and patients.
  • Accurate Documentation & Communication: Maintain meticulous records of all transport activities, including chain-of-custody documentation, and communicate proactively with internal teams regarding status updates or any issues encountered during transit.
  • Operational Readiness & Flexibility: Remain available for travel, sometimes overnight, with minimal notice, adapting to evolving schedules and patient needs while ensuring reliable and timely delivery of critical therapies.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a customer service, healthcare, or hospital-related environment, preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license, proof of current automobile insurance, and a clean driving history.
  • Ability to submit availability monthly or bi-weekly for upcoming trips, with some overnight trips available.
  • Flexibility to travel by air on short notice to meet operational and patient care needs.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and display empathy and professionalism.
  • Reliable mobile phone and availability for continuous communication during transport activities.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment background check, as well as any site-specific security or credentialing requirements.
  • Physical capability to sit for extended periods, lift and carry up to 25 lbs and perform the duties of the position safely and efficiently.
