The HIS Coordinator is responsible for managing and organizing patient information in a secure and confidential manner. The HIS Coordinator acts as the liaison for physician offices and other hospital staff and assists physicians and other medical personnel in achieving timely, accurate, and complete documentation practices.

Responsibilities

  • →Analyze records for completion of required documentation and signatures, whether paper or scanned
  • →Respond to internal and external customer inquiries in a timely manner
  • →Verify all primary and secondary insurances using Connex, Epaces, Inovalon, My Avality and any other tools we have available
  • →Obtain insurance authorization, if required, for residents selected for admission
  • →Promptly answer telephone calls
  • →Provide Release of Information Service
  • →Report to Administrator/DON/designee any patient complaints or any other complaints
  • →Maintain awareness of patient rights to information and proper restrictions
  • →Provide requested charts to appropriate destination
  • →Audit medical records for completion, timeliness of documentation. Other audits as assigned by Administrator/designee
  • →Enter demographic, contact, insurance, referral information into SigmaCare
  • →Assist Social Services team by starting admission packets
  • →Place records in proper chart order
  • →Assist physicians in locating and completing patient records including electronic signatures
  • →File or scan loose documents and reports on discharged records
  • →Provide back-up data entry support as assigned
  • →Complete utilization review forms and add to insurance calendar for residents who require insurance reviews
  • →Complete all assignments in a timely manner
  • →Prep, analyze, scan, or perform quality checks to scanned patient records as assigned
  • →Update SigmaCare, MatrixCare, 123 Census with all admissions, discharges, room changes
  • →Performs other duties as assigned
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal guidelines
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Associate’s Degree required
  • RHIT preferred, or eligible within one year
  • Prior experience in medical records/release of information preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Participates in in-service education and competency-based activities as indicated
  • Requires attendance of staff and team meetings
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15lbs at times

Pay Range: $18.46-$22.51/hr

Employee salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
