The Tank Cleaner is responsible for cleaning, degassing, and maintenance operations on marine and industrial tanks, confined spaces, and associated equipment.

Working under the supervision of the Tank Cleaning Foreman, the role ensures all cleaning activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with company, safety, and environmental standards.

The ideal candidate is physically fit, safety-conscious, and experienced in industrial or marine cleaning operations, with the ability to work in challenging confined space environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual and mechanical cleaning of fuel, ballast, sludge, and water tanks onboard vessels and industrial sites.
  • Operate cleaning equipment including pumps, high-pressure washers, and vacuum systems.
  • Assist with chemical cleaning, degassing, and residue removal operations as required.
  • Follow all safety procedures including confined space entry, lockout/tagout, and PPE requirements.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings, and emergency drills.
  • Support gas testing, ventilation, and safe entry procedures under supervision.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions or incidents to the Foreman.
  • Assist in setup, inspection, and dismantling of equipment before and after operations.
  • Work closely with team members to ensure efficient and timely execution of tasks.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas, tools, and equipment after each job.
  • Record job-related information including cleaning activities, materials used, and safety checks.
  • Ensure proper handling, labelling, and disposal of waste materials in line with environmental regulations.
  • Report equipment faults or maintenance needs promptly.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of experience in industrial cleaning, marine services, waste management, or similar environments.
  • Basic understanding of confined space entry and hazardous materials handling (training can be provided).
  • Ability to operate or assist with high-pressure cleaning, vacuum, and pumping systems.
  • Physically fit and able to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in PPE.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and reliability.
  • Valid driving licence considered an advantage.

Nice to Have

  • Confined Space Entry and Rescue (training can be provided if not certified).
  • HAZWOPER 24/40 certification (preferred).
  • Basic First Aid and Fire Safety awareness.
