About the Role
~1 min readThis is not a traditional project management role. We are looking for a Technical Program Manager to work directly with the CTO to drive the “run” and “grow” aspects of the Engineering projects. The Technical Program Manager will oversee a portfolio of initiatives including integration projects, technology migrations, and Data Engineering work. The successful candidate is expected to have the technical depth to work daily with senior engineers and the operational discipline to manage a very high number of concurrent initiatives.
This is a hands-on role. The Technical Program Manager will work within a distributed Engineering organization of around 150 members, directly responsible for driving projects to completion, not simply coordinating others. Success requires understanding the technical substance of each project well enough to identify risks, remove blockers, and make trade-off recommendations.
You must already be residing in Japan with valid working rights.
Responsibilities

- →Technical Truth-Seeking: Audit technical discussions and documentation, ensuring precision in communication. Produce clear, data-driven status reports and dashboards
- →Identify and mitigate risks before they impact delivery
- →Executive Proxy: Represent the CTO in internal technical steering committees, making "move-forward" decisions on resource allocation and priority trade-offs.
- →AI-First Execution: Design and implement AI-driven workflows (LLM assistants, automated reporting, visual dashboards) to exponentially increase your own bandwidth and the department's visibility.

- Technical curiosity and learning ability: Ability to quickly develop working knowledge of unfamiliar technical domains. Asks questions until understanding is achieved, avoiding discussing topics without first taking time to learn them.
- High-volume project management: Demonstrated experience managing multiple concurrent projects. Thrives with a diverse portfolio and has systems to keep multiple workstreams moving.
- Execution focus: A doer who produces deliverables, drives decisions, and removes blockers directly rather than delegating action to meetings.
- High proficiency with AI tools: Experience using AI assistants and automation tools to improve productivity, generate reports, and analyze project data.
- Clear communication: Ability to translate technical complexity into clear updates for stakeholders at all levels. Strong written communication skills.
- Excellent English communication, oral and written
Requirements
~1 min read- A background as former Engineering Manager or Architect who want to transition to organization and execution is nice to have
- Experience in fintech, payments, or fast-moving startups
- Business level Japanese skill is nice to have but not necessary
- Some background in software engineering or data engineering is helpful
