GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
The Instructional Technology Specialist supports faculty in the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of online and hybrid courses. This entry-level position collaborates with instructors to enhance course quality, student engagement, and accessibility using the institution’s learning management system and related technologies.
The position provides training, technical support, and course development assistance aligned with institutional standards, accessibility requirements, and student success initiatives. This role contributes to improving student retention and course completion rates through effective course design support and faculty engagement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with faculty to develop and revise online and hybrid courses using established course templates and institutional standards
- Assist faculty with creating and organizing course content, assessments, and learning activities within the LMS
- Support implementation of best practices in online teaching, including student engagement and Regular & Substantive Interaction (RSI)
- Deliver training sessions and workshops on Blackboard Ultra and online teaching practices
- Provide one-on-one support to faculty on course setup, tools, and instructional strategies
- Develop and maintain training materials, guides, and resources for faculty use
- Provide front-line support for faculty and students using Blackboard Ultra
- Troubleshoot course-related issues and escalate complex problems as needed
- Support faculty in creating accessible course materials aligned with WCAG 2.1 AA standards
- Assist with use of accessibility tools such as Blackboard Ally
- Participate in course reviews to ensure alignment with institutional quality standards and best practices
- Prepare a variety of instructional and operational materials; set up and operate various audio- visual, computer and other teaching aids as assigned; assist in utilizing instructional equipment and programmed materials; orient and monitor the use of computers; remain current concerning instructional and desktop software.
- Develop workshop content, conduct technology training workshops, develops workshop schedules, and researches.
- Analyze and coordinate support to resolve issues related to the learning management system (LMS) and other instructional technology systems.
- Operate a computer and other assigned office and instructional equipment and including a variety of instructional software and word processing, spreadsheets, database management, desktop publishing presentations, power point presentations, email, and scheduling.
- Assist with certification and recertification processes, tracking, and scheduling; assist with instructional designing methods and practices.
- Act as liaison to Information Technology for the resolution of instructional hardware and software problems and/or projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
Applicable Federal, State, and Local laws, rules, regulations, codes, and guidelines;
Office management practices and standard operating procedures;
Recordkeeping and filing practices and procedures;
Customer service principles;
Budgeting principles and practices.
Ability to:
Present materials to groups and individuals.
Work with diverse academic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and other stakeholders.
Work independently.
Effectively communicate both in writing and verbally.
Handle sensitive and confidential matters and situations.
Understand and follow broad and complex instructions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associates’ degree in a field directly related to the area of assignment, with 1 year of directly related work experience in support of an administrator or work unit. An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Conditions are those of a typical office environment, requiring frequent oral communication with students and colleagues, the ability to enter data and written communications in electronic format in a timely manner, and sufficient mobility to be present and address students, their parents, and fellow professionals at appropriate college and regional functions.
- Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 15 pounds; standing, sitting and/or walking for brief or long periods
