The Standards team in Qualcomm has been at the forefront of driving innovations and shaping the ecosystem from CDMA to 3G UMTS, 4G LTE, LTE Advanced, and now 5G, 6G and machine learning (ML) applications to wireless communications. The candidate will focus on wireless systems engineering studies, aiming at performing design and system level analysis / simulation of 5G and 6G cellular systems, with a focus on satellite / non-terrestrial networks. We are open to this role being based in Spain or Italy Role Overview and Responsibilities * Develop system level studies to assess the performance of radio access technologies. * Design novel techniques to improve performance of radio access technologies. Preferred Qualifications & Background: * Ph.D. or Master’s degree course in one of the following majors: Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering. Expertise and technical skills: * Advanced programming skills in MATLAB/Python are required, skill in other languages (C/C+) is a plus; * Organizational, communication and editorial skills in English are required; * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; * Experience with event-driven network / system level simulators, channel modeling; * Knowledge of 3GPP specifications is a plus; * Ability to work well in a team environment with a focus on knowledge sharing and collaboration. Your Background and Theoretical Knowledge: * Solid knowledge of MIMO, network schedulers, interference mitigation techniques; * Solid knowledge of radio communication theory and digital signal processing; * Basic knowledge of information theory, coding theory, adaptive filtering, signal detection and estimation, optimization theory, machine learning, deep learning theory, networked and mobile computing environments, and their applications to Wireless Communications; * Familiarity with design, analysis and simulation of PHY and/or MAC layers, Radio Access Network and/or Core Network design, interference and mobility management in Radio Access Networks, with focus on 3GPP and IEEE radio access standards; Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience. OR Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 1+ year Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience. OR PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field. *Global travel several times per year for standards organization forums. Preferred Qualifications: • Master's or Doctoral degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field. • Experience within a particular domain area (e.g., automotive, Wi-Fi, cellular). Principal Duties and Responsibilities: • Applies Technical Standards knowledge and experience to develop technology and innovations and to represent Qualcomm as a delegate in standardization forums. • Collaborates across Standards teams (e.g., 3GPP, IEEE, 5GAA) to contribute to existing draft standards and the development of new standards for domain of expertise (e.g., Wi-Fi, 5G/6G). • Conducts technical analysis (e.g., simulation studies, design, power analysis) to provide technical justification for proposals in standards; develops new ideas and patents. • Collaborates with attorneys and other internal teams on patent and other filings to protect Qualcomm IP. • Writes detailed technical documentation and standards specifications for projects to guide users and/or customers; ensure documentation can be easily understood by a variety of audiences. Level of Responsibility: • Works independently with minimal supervision. • Decision-making may affect work beyond immediate work group. • Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey information.
