Embedded within the senior leadership of a prominent construction entity, this executive-level role is critical for safeguarding the organisation’s integrity and people. You could be based in either Johannesburg, Paarl or East London regional offices. Reporting to the CEO and as the primary custodian of safety, health, environmental, and quality management, you will drive a high-performance culture that balances rigorous legislative compliance with strategic operational excellence. This is a high-impact opportunity to influence group-wide policy and lead a substantial team across complex project environments. Key Responsibilities: Develop and execute a comprehensive Group SHEQ Strategy aligned with overarching business objectives, serving as a trusted advisor to the Board and CEO. Lead the implementation and optimisation of ISO 45001, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 management systems across all group projects and grids. Provide high-level leadership and mentorship to three Senior SHEQ Managers and a broad network of SHEQ Officers deployed across various project sites. Identify and manage SHEQ-related risks through proactive mitigation plans, ensuring all foreseeable hazards are controlled. Prepare the organisation and its subsidiaries for ISO compliance audits and ensure all non-conformities are investigated and resolved. Review and approve SHEQ documentation for tender submissions and ensure site notifications and training competencies remain valid. Manage a group-wide SHEQ dashboard and produce consolidated monthly and quarterly performance reports for executive management. Oversee the departmental budget, ensuring disciplined expenditure and accurate financial reporting. Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or Quality Management (NQF Level 7) or Postgraduate qualification in a related field (NQF Level 8). Minimum of 6 years’ SHEQ experience specifically within the construction industry. At least 4+ years of experience at a senior management or executive level. Valid membership with a professional body (e.g., SACPCMP registration). Valid Driver’s Licence. SA Citizen. Deep understanding of South African SHEQ regulations, EHS Management Systems, and risk management principles. Software Skills: Active Directory / Activ (Workflow systems), Microsoft Office Suite (Advanced Excel and PowerPoint for reporting).
