Senior Engineer (geospatial experience)

Ryz Labs is looking for a Senior Engineer to take ownership of key parts of the platform, from system design and architecture to production code and long-term reliability.

This role has one specific requirement: hands-on experience working with maps, coordinates, and geospatial data. A major part of the platform involves extracting geometry from documents, placing it at real-world coordinates, measuring it, and exporting it for use in the field.

 

• 5+ years of experience building production software, with increasing ownership of architecture and technical decisions.

• Strong production experience with TypeScript and Node.js.

• Hands-on experience working with maps, coordinates, geometry, or geospatial data in a real-world application.

• Experience with one or more of the following: GIS, GeoJSON, KML, routing, asset mapping, fleet tracking, logistics, agriculture, drones, or similar geospatial applications.

• Experience working with messy real-world data, including inconsistent formats, missing fields, and unreliable or incomplete sources.

• Experience building systems where incorrect outputs can have meaningful business consequences.

• Strong judgment around data quality, correctness, and when a system should explicitly indicate that an answer cannot be determined.

• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

• Background in civil engineering, surveying, asphalt, construction estimating, or related fields.

• Familiarity with construction plans, stationing, alignments, and pay items.

• Experience with hauling, logistics, routing, or haul-distance calculations.

• Experience with DOT bid documents.

• Familiarity with tools such as Bluebeam, B2W, HeavyBid, or HardDollar.

• Experience with 3D geospatial data, including terrain and surface models, point clouds, cut/fill volumes, or similar applications.

• Experience with tools or libraries such as Turf.js, proj4js, PostGIS, or comparable geospatial technologies.What You'll OwnParts of the platform architecture, with increasing ownership as the team grows.

• The map and geometry layer: extracting geometry from documents, placing it at real latitude and longitude, measuring it, and exporting it for field use.

• Geospatial distance, routing, and hauling-related functionality.

• Production code and significant architectural decisions.

• Code quality through reviews, engineering standards, and CI.

• Monitoring, observability, and systems designed to fail safely when an output cannot be determined reliably.
