CJGeo is a Virginia-based specialty grouting and lightweight fill contractor serving industrial, commercial, and public markets, with project work spanning most of the country east of Texas. What started in 2002 as a residential site work contractor in Williamsburg has grown into a company that installs cellular concrete, polyurethane, chemical, and permeation grouts along with lightweight fill and sonic drilling - solving problems like settlement correction, pipe abandonment, sinkhole repair, and load reduction for clients ranging from commercial property owners to municipalities, utilities, DOTs, and railroads. That growth is built on relationships, adaptability, responsibility, and quality - values that show up in how we treat our people as much as how we treat our clients. CJGeo is a growing, family-owned business building the infrastructure to match the pace of that growth, and this role sits right at the center of that work.

About the Role

~1 min read

CJGeo is hiring a Director of Operations to own the internal engine that keeps our field crews running and build the processes that don't exist yet. This is not a strategy-only executive seat. We need someone who owns logistics, materials and inventory, fleet, DOT and safety compliance, risk, vendor management, and HR, so a job is never waiting on a truck, a part, a hire, or an approval. We are looking for someone who is just as comfortable designing a purchasing process as they are solving a same-day material problem for a crew in the field.

Just as important as the operational scope is how this person leads. This person will be a curious and humble leader who learns how things work before changing them, makes decisions with confidence, and brings the field, the office, and leadership along with them.

The Director of Operations will be responsible for:

  • Leading logistics and warehouse operations so materials reach job sites correctly and on time, even when supply is tight.
  • Owning physical inventory and a job-tied purchase order process, partnering with Finance on inventory accounting and reconciliation.
  • Managing the fleet, including vehicles, fuel cards, leasing, registration, and maintenance, in partnership with our shop.
  • Owning the DOT, driver qualification, and vehicle compliance program so we're ready for any roadside inspection.
  • Running the safety program, certifications, and training alongside the field supervisors who lead safety on the ground.
  • Managing risk, including our insurance and bonding relationships.
  • Mapping how work actually gets done, fixing the most painful processes first, and retiring what no longer adds value, even when "we've always done it this way."
  • Owning our operational systems, including Salesforce process design, job log consolidation, and turning historical productivity data into planning guidelines.
  • Setting tiered spending and approval guidelines across departments and serving as the decision-maker for support-side spend under a set threshold.
  • Leading the team reporting to this role and the HR function, with ownership of hiring, retention, and a recruiting process that lets hiring managers focus on decisions.
  • Managing vendor and supplier relationships across operations, including IT and other outsourced partners.
  • Bridging sales, preconstruction, Construction, and Finance, starting with a consistent handoff from sale to field.
  • Have 8+ years leading operations, such as logistics, supply chain, procurement, or fleet, in a high-volume, fast-paced business.
  • Have built or rebuilt an operations function before, not just worked inside one that was already running well.
  • Have implemented systems and processes that people actually adopted, and kept improving them after launch.
  • Are a strong people manager who works well with everyone from field crews to executives, and know enough HR to spot what isn't working.
  • Listen first, then design a better way, get buy-in, and make it stick.
  • Make confident decisions based on principles, not rules, and know when to escalate.
  • Know what downtime costs and move with urgency when something breaks.
  • Have construction or field services experience at a similar-size company with high project volume.
  • Bring supply chain experience from a fast-moving environment like manufacturing or distribution, or from a high-volume, regulated operation like a medical practice.
  • Have DOT, fleet, or safety compliance experience, or have built a purchasing, inventory, or work-order system.
  • Curious + Humble: You ask questions before giving answers, and you respect the knowledge of people who have been doing the work for years.
  • Adaptable + Iterative: You'll try something for two weeks, measure it, and change it, or drop it, as soon as there's a better way, even if you built it.
  • Decisive + Accountable: You make the call, own the outcome, and don't send decisions back up the chain that you're equipped to make.
  • Systems-Minded + Practical: You build systems because they create value, not for the sake of having them.
  • Direct + Trustworthy: You say what needs to be said, respectfully and clearly, and people know they can count on your word.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) retirement plan with a company match
  • Company-paid life, AD&D, and short- and long-term disability insurance
  • Voluntary life, critical illness, and accident insurance options, with family coverage available
  • Paid time off that grows with tenure
  • Paid company holidays annually, including a full week around Christmas
  • A hybrid schedule
  • The chance to join a growing, family-owned business in its second generation, with real room to shape how the operations function is built

Research shows women and people of color are less likely to apply unless they meet every qualification and we think that's a problem. If this role excites you, but your experience doesn't perfectly match every requirement, we still encourage you to apply. Our hiring philosophy looks to weed candidates INTO our process, not weed them out! Who knows, you may be just the right candidate for a future role inside or outside of the Sandbox. Just go for it and submit your resume.
