About the Role

~2 min read
  • Own the banking platform roadmap. Define and sequence the platform work required to support accounts, deposits, cards, and lending on a single ledger and account model.
  • Help drive the build-vs-buy decision. Evaluate core banking platforms and processors, run vendor diligence, model cost and time-to-market, and help leadership decide whether we extend what we have or integrate a third party.
  • Shape the account and ledger model. Work with Engineering and Finance on account hierarchies, sub-ledgers, chart-of-accounts mapping, posting rules, holds, interest and fee accrual, and general ledger integration.
  • Specify money movement. Own product requirements for transfers, ACH, card issuing and network settlement, real-time rails, and returns and reversals — including exception handling, cutoff windows, and settlement reconciliation.
  • Make the platform auditable. Ensure the system produces the reporting, traceability, and controls that Finance, audit, and regulators need — reconciliation breaks, balance attestation, and complete transaction history.
  • Partner on regulatory readiness. Work with Compliance and Legal to turn their requirements into platform capabilities: screening hooks, onboarding data, error resolution, disclosures and statements, and reporting. You don’t need to arrive fluent in US banking regulation — you do need to be someone who learns it properly.
  • Plan migration and cutover. If a migration is in scope, own data mapping, parallel-run strategy, validation criteria, rollback plans, and phased cutover.
  • Write the technical requirements. Own detailed specs, API contracts, event schemas, data models, user stories, and release plans end-to-end.
  • Use data to prove it works. Write your own SQL. Define platform KPIs — posting latency, reconciliation break rate, settlement accuracy, failure rates — and monitor them relentlessly.
  • Manage risk early. Anticipate technical risks, edge cases, race conditions, and dependencies before they become incidents. Money movement defects are the expensive kind.
  • Operate with urgency. Deliver against an evolving regulatory and business timeline with incomplete information.
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or other technical discipline (required).
  • 5–10 years of product experience, with meaningful time spent on financial infrastructure rather than only customer-facing surfaces.
  • Real ownership in at least one of the following. You do not need all of them, and we care much more about depth in one than exposure to several:
  1. Ledgers, general ledger, or balance and transaction systems
  2. Payments processing, orchestration, or money movement — ACH, card networks, transfers, settlement, or the LATAM equivalents (PIX, SPEI, PSE, CCE)
  3. Card issuing or card program management
  4. Deposit, wallet, or account platforms
  5. Lending origination or loan servicing platforms
  6. Product work at a processor, BaaS provider, or core banking vendor
  • Comfort with double-entry accounting concepts as they show up in software — debits and credits, sub-ledgers, accruals, reconciliation — or a genuine appetite to get comfortable with them quickly.
  • Deep technical understanding of APIs, event-driven architecture, idempotency, distributed system failure modes, batch vs. real-time processing, and data flows.
  • Strong SQL skills and comfort querying and interpreting data independently.
  • Experience working directly with Compliance, Legal, Finance, or Treasury as stakeholders — not only Engineering and Design.
  • Comfortable working in ambiguity and making sound, documented decisions with incomplete information.
  • Strong written and verbal communication — can hold your own in an engineering standup, a Finance review, and an executive discussion.
  • Hands-on familiarity with AI tools, data models, or generative AI applications—personally, professionally, or better yet, both!

Requirements

~1 min read
  • Direct experience with a core banking platform, in-house or vendor (Thought Machine, Mambu, 10x, Finxact, Temenos, Technisys, Galileo, Pismo, or similar).
  • Experience with a core migration, conversion, or major ledger replacement.
  • Experience at a chartered or licensed financial institution, or supporting a charter, banking licence, or deposit insurance application.
  • Familiarity with consumer finance regulation — US (Reg E, Reg DD, Reg CC, Reg Z, TILA, FCRA, BSA/AML) or equivalent local regimes.
  • Background in consumer credit or BNPL, card products, or bank-fintech sponsorship programs.
  • Experience with third-party risk management and vendor oversight in a regulated environment.
  • You have relentlessly high standards - many people may think your standards are unreasonably high. You are continually raising the bar and driving those around you to deliver great results. You make sure that defects do not get sent down the line and that problems are fixed so they stay fixed.
  • You’re not bound by convention - your success—and much of the fun—lies in developing new ways to do things
  • You need action - speed matters in business. Many decisions and actions are reversible and do not need extensive study. We value calculated risk-taking.
  • You earn trust - you listen attentively, speak candidly, and treat others respectfully.
  • You have backbone; disagree, then commit - you can respectfully challenge decisions when you disagree, even when doing so is uncomfortable or exhausting. You have conviction and are tenacious. You do not compromise for the sake of social cohesion. Once a decision is determined, you commit wholly.
  • You deliver results - you focus on the key inputs and deliver them with the right quality and in a timely fashion. Despite setbacks, you rise to the occasion and never settle.
