Our client is a rapidly growing UK-based care home group providing high-quality residential care for the elderly. With multiple care homes currently in operation and continued expansion through acquisitions, the business is investing in building a robust finance function capable of supporting long-term growth, operational excellence, and strategic decision-making.

This role will work directly alongside the Director and play a key role in developing scalable financial processes while supporting the continued growth of the organisation.

 


We are seeking an experienced Management Accountant who thrives in a fast-paced, growing business and enjoys combining traditional management accounting responsibilities with process improvement and financial analysis.

This is a hands-on role responsible for producing accurate management accounts, overseeing key accounting processes, supporting budgeting and forecasting, improving reporting capabilities, and helping leadership make informed financial decisions.

The successful candidate will become one of the senior members of the finance function and will have significant ownership over financial reporting, forecasting, operational improvements, and financial controls.

 


Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate monthly management accounts for multiple entities
  • Produce monthly variance analysis and commentary against budgets and forecasts
  • Prepare monthly cash flow forecasts
  • Maintain accurate trial balances and supporting schedules
  • Manage accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and ad hoc financial reports for leadership
  • Assist with board reporting and executive financial presentations

 


  • Take full ownership of the sales ledger
  • Raise invoices accurately and promptly across multiple funding sources
  • Ensure billing complies with agreed contracts and internal procedures
  • Monitor debtor balances and aged receivables
  • Liaise with Home Managers, Administrators, NHS contacts, local authorities, private clients, and other stakeholders to resolve billing issues and recover outstanding balances
  • Maintain accurate customer account records

 


  • Oversee purchase ledger processes
  • Review supplier invoices for accuracy
  • Prepare supplier payment schedules for Director approval
  • Maintain accurate supplier records
  • Support strong financial controls across purchasing activities

 


  • Prepare monthly payroll information across the group
  • Coordinate new starters, leavers, salary adjustments, deductions, and additional payments
  • Support payroll reconciliation activities
  • Respond to payroll-related employee queries
  • Work closely with Directors to ensure payroll accuracy prior to approval

 


  • Support annual budgeting processes
  • Assist with quarterly forecasting exercises
  • Monitor departmental expenditure against approved budgets
  • Produce variance reports highlighting key trends and risks
  • Assist leadership with financial planning activities

 


  • Develop financial models to support business decisions
  • Analyse profitability across individual care homes
  • Support acquisition analysis and financial due diligence
  • Identify opportunities to improve profitability and reduce costs
  • Evaluate operational performance using financial data

 


Prepare regular management reporting including:

  • Occupancy reporting
  • Admissions and discharge reporting
  • Labour cost analysis
  • Agency staffing expenditure
  • Care home profitability reporting
  • KPI dashboards
  • Cash flow reporting
  • Operational performance reporting

 


  • Improve finance workflows and internal controls
  • Support implementation of scalable financial systems
  • Implement Purchase Order processes across the business
  • Improve reporting automation through Excel, Power BI, Google Sheets, or similar tools
  • Identify opportunities to leverage AI and automation to improve efficiency
  • Recommend improvements to financial processes as the organisation continues to grow

 


  • Maintain accurate financial records
  • Support year-end reporting activities
  • Prepare information required for external audits
  • Assist with statutory reporting requirements
  • Support corporation tax preparation
  • Assist with lender reporting and banking requests
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls

 


  • Minimum 4 years of management accounting or finance experience
  • Strong experience preparing monthly management accounts
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including:
    • Pivot Tables
    • Advanced formulas
    • Financial modelling
    • Data analysis
  • Experience producing management dashboards
  • Experience with Power BI, Google Sheets, or similar reporting platforms
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Accruals
    • Prepayments
    • Balance sheet reconciliations
    • Cash flow forecasting
    • Variance analysis
  • Experience supporting payroll processes
  • Experience with accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • Strong financial reporting experience
  • Professional accounting qualification (ACCA, ACA, CIMA, CPA or equivalent) preferred, although qualified-by-experience candidates will also be considered
  • Comfortable using AI tools to improve productivity and finance processes

The successful candidate will provide the financial insight, reporting accuracy, and operational improvements necessary to support informed decision-making, maintain compliance, strengthen financial controls, and help scale the business efficiently.
