Finance & AccountingController

We are a highly profitable, bootstrapped European scale-up making custom-branded takeaway packaging accessible to businesses of all sizes. Since 2018, we have scaled rapidly across 14 countries by partnering with regional manufacturers to offer faster, cheaper, and more sustainable packaging solutions to the food and beverage industry.

The company has strong momentum, winning the Børsen Gazelle award three years in a row—2023, 2024, and 2025—for exceptional revenue growth. With a fully remote team of over 30 employees, a certified Happy Workplace culture, a newly integrated manufacturing subsidiary, expansion into stock-keeping, increasing EU regulatory complexity, and a target to triple our revenue over the next three years, we are now building the financial infrastructure needed for our next stage of scale.

As our Senior Financial Controller, you will own the forward-looking financial agenda. Our Finance Manager runs the historical accounting engine, which frees you to focus on the future. This is a role for a systems builder who prefers engineering smart processes over executing manual tasks, and who finds genuine satisfaction in mentoring other financial professionals.

Responsibilities

~2 min read

Your time will be balanced across building infrastructure, managing complex compliance projects, advising our leadership, and mentoring our team.

  • Forward-Looking Planning and System Building (40%): You will design and automate financial forecasts, budgets, scenario models, and liquidity tracking. This includes establishing financial frameworks for stock-keeping and inventory management to handle our growing manufacturing complexity, with a core focus on limiting manual tasks and improving overall department structure.
  • Complex Compliance and Project Execution (25%): You will take full ownership of major compliance initiatives. Your immediate priority will be designing and implementing a compliant, automated system for the upcoming EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). You will establish extended producer responsibility (EPR) reporting, cost management structures, and material recyclability tracking ahead of the legal deadlines, ensuring a fully compliant system is built and running smoothly.
  • Strategic Advisory and Management Alignment (25%): You will act as the primary financial sounding board for the CEO and CCO, operating independently without relying on daily direction. Rather than simply compiling reports, you will translate complex financial realities and subsidiary performance into clear, data-backed strategic choices. This includes establishing a comprehensive reporting setup for our manufacturing subsidiary.
  • Mentorship and Lateral Leadership (10%): You will guide our Finance Manager, acting as a supportive sounding board, evaluating improvement opportunities, and helping prepare them for a future CFO track. You will lead the department laterally, fostering development and suggesting structural improvements without micromanaging the daily accounting operations or the two accountants who report directly to the Finance Manager.
  • You are a systems builder and automator: You dislike repetitive manual entries and Excel maintenance. You look at a complex process and naturally design a software or automated solution so that once the system is built, it runs with minimal manual upkeep. You are mentally open to adopting modern tools and AI to eliminate administrative bloat.
  • You seek factual precision: You look past surface-level symptoms to find the root causes in data. You are highly analytical, critical of unverified assumptions, and deeply prepared when making strategic recommendations.
  • You look forward: You naturally think in scenarios, predicting risks, liquidity changes, and operational opportunities well before they appear. Your focus is on where the business is going, not just where it has been.
  • You are a dedicated mentor: You find fulfillment in helping others grow. You want to coach our Finance Manager, giving them the space to own daily operations while helping them build their strategic capabilities.
  • You are collaborative and low-ego: You prefer working behind the scenes to build great systems and support your team. You completely avoid the behavioral derailers of "winning too much" or trying to leave a mark just for the sake of it. You are confident advising senior leadership and will challenge decisions when the data demands it, but you do so with a constructive, partnership-oriented approach.

To succeed in this role, you should bring a strong mix of cost accounting, financial controlling, and systems implementation experience.

  • 8+ years of progressive experience spanning cost accounting, financial controlling, and financial planning and analysis (FP&A).
  • 3+ years of experience operating as a Financial Controller or Finance Manager, demonstrating a strategic, future-focused approach and the capabilities of a junior CFO.
  • A proven track record of building, designing, and automating financial systems and reporting frameworks from scratch, rather than simply maintaining existing setups.
  • Experience managing large compliance or regulatory projects with hard deadlines, such as packaging tax systems, international tax frameworks, or extended producer responsibility schemes.
  • Experience in manufacturing finance, including cost accounting, stock-keeping, and the financial integration of subsidiaries. Experience within Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) or food packaging is highly ideal.
  • Experience acting as a trusted advisor to C-level management and a history of successfully mentoring junior finance colleagues.

 We Offer

  • A 39-hour a week full-time remote position with a fixed salary according to experience (Mon-Fri, CET/GMT+1 or maximum 2 hours away).
  • A competitive salary, 6 weeks of paid time off, pay during sick days, and generous paid parental leave.
  • A startup environment with an exceptional work ethic where overtime is generally not expected but would be compensated if required.
