We are seeking a diligent, detail-oriented, and analytical Credit Officer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for evaluating creditworthiness, processing loan applications, monitoring existing credits, and ensuring compliance with credit policies to minimize risk exposure. Key Responsibilities: Credit Assessment & Evaluation: Analyze financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant data to assess creditworthiness of individuals and businesses. Evaluate loan applications, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance with credit policies. Recommend approval, decline, or modifications to loan requests based on risk analysis. Loan Processing & Administration: Ensure accurate and timely documentation and processing of approved credit facilities. Prepare credit proposals and present to the Credit Committee or approving authority. Monitor repayment schedules, track disbursements, and ensure proper loan documentation. Portfolio Management & Risk Monitoring: Maintain and monitor assigned credit portfolios to ensure timely repayments and early identification of potential defaults. Prepare periodic reports on loan performance, delinquency trends, and risk exposures. Recommend restructuring, recovery strategies, or write-offs when necessary. Compliance & Policy Adherence: Ensure all credit activities comply with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. Participate in periodic audits and ensure prompt resolution of audit findings. Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients to support credit recovery and future business. Provide advisory services to clients on suitable credit products and financial solutions. Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field. 3+ years of proven experience as a Credit Officer, Loan Officer, or a related role within a financial institution. Strong knowledge of credit analysis, financial statements, and credit risk assessment. Familiarity with banking regulations, credit policies, and debt recovery processes. Proficient in MS Office Suite (especially Excel) and financial management software. Excellent analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills. Strong interpersonal and communication abilities. High attention to detail and accuracy. Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Skills: Experience with credit scoring models and risk management tools. Knowledge of regulatory bodies’ guidelines (CBN, NDIC, etc.) and international standards (IFRS 9). Familiarity with microfinance operations or SME lending.
