This job contributes to Starbucks success by implementing and auditing the manufacturing quality strategy, food safety, process and program quality and regulatory compliance to ensure the continuous supply of safe, wholesome and premium quality products to customers. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
As a quality assurance specialist, you will…
• Assess quality of daily production through review and analysis of documentation and data. Identify and communicate trends and investigate root cause. Initiate and lead investigation of hold issues and provide recommendation for disposition to QA Manager. Ensure that regular reports of product statuses are provided to operations.
• Develop and deliver training curriculums for quality and coffee education-based programs. Support quality assurance technicians in development of training skills.
• Engage with engineering and manufacturing to develop test protocols and procedures for evaluating quality parameters as it applies to equipment and process. Lead or participate in supply chain or plant-initiated process improvement activities; support process and product development.
• Oversee maintenance of quality assurance lab according to cleanliness standards. Ensure equipment is calibrated and in working order. Maintain a clean and organized working environment.
• Support manufacturing quality assurance team to develop and communicate quality specifications and standards. Manage plant documentation control program. Maintain facility certifications and regulatory licenses. Provide documentation to auditors, applies for renewals and participates in certification audits.
• Work with manufacturing quality assurance team to develop, implement and manage programs related to product and process quality, food safety, and regulatory compliance. Conduct audits of programs and processes. Identify opportunities and provides solutions for improvements. Lead HACCP and GMP compliance teams.
• Demonstrate and understand safety as our core value and follow the key essentials to safety as set forth by our safety resolution; coach others to do the same.
• Understand and follow established safety guidelines, consistently comply with all safety procedures (e.g. PPE, Lock Out Tag Out).
• Reinforce safe practices to other partners and provide coaching when witness to unsafe practices.
• Support food safety, legality and quality programs.
• Perform other duties as needed in support of business objectives and Starbucks Mission & Values.
• Maintain product quality through adherence to good manufacturing practices, Food Safety Preventative Controls, product specifications and quality procedures. Monitor and document quality measures using analytical tools.
We’d love to hear from people with:
• High school diploma/GED, US military service or equivalent
• Auditing raw materials and finished goods (2 years)
• Laboratory (2 years)
• Hazard Assessment and Critical Control Points (HACCP) (1 year)
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
• Ability to lead and train others o Analytical, systems-thinking skills
• Decision making o Ability to understand written policies and guidelines, specifications and safety standards.
• Ability to work in accordance with safety, quality and sanitation standards, policies and procedures.
• Ability to work with a diverse team environment.
• Ability to work variable shifts to support business needs.
• Familiarity with food safety regulatory requirements and global standards including Preventive Controls for Human Food (FDA Code of Federal Regulations) and the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). Experience with GFSI certification schemes (i.e. BRC and/or SQF).

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.
The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
